A more plausible month is September.

Sep 2012 K-5 IIs
Sep 2012 K-5 II

Sep 2010 K-5
Sep 2010 K-r
Sep 2009 K-x

May 2009 K-7
Sep 2008 K-m (= K2000)
Jan 2008 K20D + K200D
Sep 2006 K10D

So most likely we will see something exciting in Sep 2014!

But in their current position can we really say that delaying all new releases 12 - 18 months to re-do the whole line will cost them any market share? It would be a huge mistake for Canon or Nikon to do that as the other would take advantage. In Pentax's case maybe they think there is nothing to lose and they gain more by getting the house in order before moving on? I am sure they are not happy to see Pentax owners moving to the competition for FF or other reasons but if they are not in a position to do something about it then maybe it is better to retrench and try to start all over when they have a new line ready.
Well, making the wrong kind of products could hurt them more than delaying things few months, but we don't know what's the reasons for their temporary silence.
By the way, the DSLR market seems to have recovered in April, the production being slightly higher than last year's April (of course, we'll have to see the next months for a confirmation). MILC's production is lagging behind.

Canon and Nikon have so many different DSLR models offered at the same time, that if in one offer of theirs a product cycle drops to 18 months, or even 2 years or even more (see Canon 7D), it is not as noticeable. Actually, it is easier to manage people's expectations like that, with more models on the shelves.

But Pentax has only two (!) DSLR models, and gosh .. no wonder people are jittery when they see that 50% of the offer is delivered as a sugared water to buy Pentax some time ... or not ... Whatever the reason, they feel .. sort of unexcited.

Well overhere the market is pretty slim for all brands and models at the time.

And the 7D is still the best selling camera when it comes to the enthousiast and pro-market (so not counting the kitlens-buyers).

Certainly cause there is a cashback operation on Pentax cameras in europe that ends the 3rd of August

On overall sales since introduction?

Just looking at Amazon, it seems the D7100 is selling better (but it's recent), the 5DIII is selling better, the 6D is selling better, etc., etc...

And if a new camera isn't in retail by about October it will miss the Christmas selling season, if that's important.

Don't spoil a good story with the facts. On the other hand, a fixed May cycle means something will happen in 2015. Let's hope the September cycle comes good before that, and reverts to an annual period, not a biennial one.

It's not a fixed May cycle. The K-7's release was a reflection of the previous consistent 16 month flagship cycle from the K10D to the K-5. Entry levels were on 12 month cycles, which happened to be September. The Ricoh buyout broke the cycles, with the K-5 II(s) being the odd one out at 24 months, and the K-r without a real successor to this date (unless you consider the K30 to be it).

K10D (Sept 2006) -> K20D (Jan 2008) = 16 months
K20D (Jan 2008) -> K-7 (May 2009) = 16 months
K-7 (May 2009) -> K-5 (Sept 2010) = 16 months

Sure, but retailers need everything planned well in advance, stock in the warehouse in time, and enough time for a good marketing plan to build and execute. Unless you're Apple, good luck with trying to get a big retailer to take your product at the last minute and without a squeak from the marketing department. In the industry I used to work in, the retailers insisted on done deals and finalized marketing plans and product packaging by the end of May at the latest or they would not order your product for the Christmas selling season.

Maybe, or in fact I hope so, but if the retail trade around the world already has all this info and none of it leaks over the summer from anyone anywhere then a) I'd start to have my doubts and b) it would be a world first for confidentiality.
