Hi guys, I need some advice, I already e happy owner of a Pentax K10d, I love that camera, but now is getting old and I feel I've learned a lot since I bought it. And I started to think to buy a newer model. I am not a professional photographer my budget is limited and I have identified the K5 as the candidate probably body only as I already have few nice m40 lenses I used with my k10d. The question is... Is there a better time to buy it? Should I wait for a next release? Will the price soon drop? I can buy it online at the moment for 570,00 euros. Should I add 100 euros and get the k5 II?. Seamed relevant to ask here since we talk about releases...

With all due respect to K5, K5 is an old camera and i some areas inadequate (video). K50 seems to be a much better choice overall. More modern, better video, etc. Don't rush — check it out when it comes out officially.

Unless you plan to do a lot of video, any of the K-5 versions are very good cameras. And if you, like me, only see video as something you may want to use on a few occasions (on a few family occasions perhaps), it do record video.

Bonjour,

I have a K-5 (before a K-7) and what I have read, the 100€ extra for the K-5 II may be worth it ... I am not going to upgrade for a while because the K-5 suits me fine and I bought with a 4 year warranty thrown in, so I have told myself that this K-5 must serve me for that period ... I think that I made right decision two years ago to buy it, but now I wish that I could have paid at today's price point levels, which are a steal IMHO ... good luck, J

If Pentax will offer 645DII with price not above USD5000-6000 this year, no any perspectives that we will see FF soon.

Better focusing in low light. So yes if you have to buy something now. The K-50 will likely be in a similar price range if you want to wait.

Quit teasing! If the 645DII is less than $10k at intro Pentax can just shut up and take my money right now.

I think it's possible there would be a K-3 and K-FF in there, with the current 645D around it's current street price ($7000) and the 645DII more in line with other MF's, although I don't follow the Mamyias and Hassys closely, I think there are some around the $10k mark now... maybe they don't have backs or lenses or something. I guess I could see some sort of price progression:

$500 intro
$750 mid level
$1500 pro level
$3000 FF
$6000 645D
$9000 645DII.

There is some wiggle room in there for more than three APS-C bodies, though. Maybe video optimized, resolution optimized, framerate optimized, etc.

Add Q system and understand that Pentax can't offer too much cameras.

Dear friend, 645D is already $6,990 worldwide. And there is discount.

I hope I'm not repeating someone's comments elsewhere, but I haven't seen this very recent article discussed here yet:

Pentax defies market to launch budget compact (update Monday 10 June) | Amateur Photographer

I note, more specifically, the following quote: Pentax Ricoh Imaging UK's general manager Jonathan Martin told Amateur Photographer: ‘At Pentax we recognise that the market for entry-level compact cameras is in decline, but we want to be able to offer a complete range of cameras to our customers.'

Another positive indication, at least, that they are working on a 'complete' range, and that the 2013 releases have begun. I wonder will the 'pro' end of the range be in for a new release (or two, or three, or more) soon...

Looks good. I know they have to begin updating the line up at the bottom... But I'm very impatient to see what Pentax' interpretation of a pro system is.

Pentax have had it for several years. Even if they release a FF system, it might still only be medium format that they consider as a pro system.

What feature makes the 645D a "pro" system to you? The large sensor?

I'm not sure it's about features, but a system that is primarily designed for pro use.

But you asked for Pentax interpretation, so they might see it differently.

The 645D is based upon K7 technology and features. The main difference is the giant sensor, and all the different hardware and software to support it.

Mister Kitazawa said in his now almost famous interview that they look forward to bringin more professional products. But yes, maybe he was just hinting to the 645DII. (Or the infrared model that has already been released.)

I would say the main difference is in the lenses.
