Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM A1 Lens for Pentax DSLR Cameras 340109

B&H has just advised me that Sigma has given them an ETA of 4/30 for this lens!
Great new that Sigma is releasing one of their new ART lenses in the K-mount!! I have the FA31 Ltd so I will most likely not be interested in it. Still great K-mount news!!

I have played with this lens on a D4 and must say that it is stunning. I would dare to say it is my favorite lens in this general focal length. I will get it for Pentax when it comes available here (which is soon they say). I suggest others go and give it a try. I hope Sigma continues to produce wonderful products like this one and others like their macros and the 8-16mm. Very interesting company in my opinion.

(Please keep in mind my "favorite-in-focal-length" comment is based upon only about 20min of use. It could be a real dud in many situations.)

The pixel pitch of D800 is 4.7um and the pixel pitch of K-5 is 4.8um. I expect this lens on K-5 is the center crop version of D800 which is very sharp starting at f/1.4

I am waiting for FA 31 VS Sigma 35 battle.
The first thing came to my mind too. If the quality of this Sigma is as good as they say...

LoL... Let's not start this ALL over again... I'd say, just leave it to the conclusion "different lenses, different uses.. no comparison.."

Ultimately, both are as sharp as one can get. Both are different in price points, sharpness level from wide open to stopped down, weight and size, color, coating, MF feel, sexiness, AF sound, color, plastic vs metal, and what nots.

I just did a little quick comparison. On wrong mount still, but it should give some early insight.

Very good info, the thing that stood out to me most is the chromatic aberration of the FA 31mm. Looks like the Sigma is a real winner.

Then you can do funny comparisons on the same sensor:

Decide which one you'd prefer.
Where is this pic from? Any more comparisons? Canon's 50 f1.4 is super cheap, so this doesn't surprise me too much, but it's still a neat comparison.

completely pointless lens for an APS-C system - oversized in any dimensions
I bought this lens for my D800E's and it was quite heavy. I intended to sell my 35/1.4G but couldn't handle the Bokeh in landscape shots as it was like a vibrating saw had been applied to everything that was not in focus - I returned the lens for a refund.

Then there was the slightly OOF specular highlights; they were all donuts and became more elliptical the nearer they got to the edge of the frame.

Lastly, the focus ring is stiff and, to overcome it's inertia, you tend apply too much force and overshoot the focus point that you really want - it feels 'sticky' and thus no subtle manual overrides are going to happen - unless the ring wears-in somewhat.

All that being said, I probably overreacted because 90% of my shots did not exhibit the bad stuff, were sharper (and with less CA/PF) than my 35/1.4G and $1000 less in price. I am still balancing whether to buy another one and sell my 'G' as I'd originally intended.

On an aside, I did manage to grab an FA31 from an Easter Sale here in OZ.. $861 delivered.. my fav' lens of all-time for sure.
