From the Sigma Website - 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | A | Sigma
The Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG HSM is a state of the art lens designed for full frame cameras but can also be used with APS-C sensors as well. ...... the 35mm 1.4 DG HSM includes new features based around a unique lens concept and design. .......The lens is equipped with technology including a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), floating internal focusing system, SLD and FLD Glass elements. The HSM ensures quiet, high speed, accurate autofocusing while the floating focusing system allows for superior optical performance with subjects at a closer shooting distance. The SLD glass elements along with the FLD glass elements, which are equal to fluorite, help correct both axial and chromatic aberration. The large 1.4 aperture make it ideal in low light and the lens is compatible with the Sigma USB dock and Optimization Pro software to adjust and fine tune focusing parameters. ......
  • Lens Consliuction -- 13 Elements in 11 Groups
  • Angle of View -- 63.4
  • Number of Diaphragm Blades -- 9
  • Mininum Aperture -- f16
  • Minimum Focusing Distance -- 30 cm / 11.8 in
  • Filter Size (mm) -- 67mm
  • Maximum Magnifications -- 1:5.2
  • Dimensions
    (Diameter x Length) -- 77mm x 94mm mm/3in x 3.7in in
It looks like this one will work with the new USB Dock for Sigma Lenses too.
The Sigma USB dock works in conjunction with Sigma Optimization Pro software in order to connect a photographers lens to their personal computer to update firmware and other parameters such as focus, and for the Sports category: Autofocus speeds, focus limiters, and optical stabilization functionality. Updating the firmware can be done via the internet. Sigma Photo Pro is available for Mac and PC computers.
Focus Settings:
4 Categories of customization for fixed focal length.
16 Categories of customization for zoom lenses (4 options for focal length) x (4 options for shooting distance).
Sports Line:
AF Speed: 3 adjustment modes.
Focus Limiter: Customize auto focus range.
OS: 3 adjustment modes.

Hey, that's good news! I love that it is full frame, it would look pretty handsome on my MZ-S...

Curious to see if the price will drop over time. That darn FA 31mm Limited never comes down in price
Yep, too bad it has no aperture ring

True, but my past impression of Sigma's later Pentax/Sony releases are that they miss the party as opposed to being fashionably late (i.e. they would sometimes take a year or longer, if ever, to introduce the lenses for the smaller brand mounts).
Question: Are Pentax/Sony Sigma lenses compatable?

No they are not, Sony uses the old Minolta mount (from when they purchased Minolta many moons ago).

I expect close fight, but I suspect Sigma will emerge victorious. It is a much younger design afterall
I would expect the Sigma to be sharper edge to edge (probably by quite a bit), but it is significantly larger, has rougher out of focus rendering and not quite as nice colors. The FA 31 limited isn't a particularly old design. It was released, what? 15 years ago? Pentax just has slightly different priorities from Sigma.

Good news ... but bad price for me. I should have looked harder at the Sigma 30/1.4 when it was on sale ... J

B&H has just advised me that Sigma has given them an ETA of 4/30 for this lens!
completely pointless lens for an APS-C system - oversized in any dimensions

Say, I understand there is a Pentax to Canon adapter so that one can mount a Pentax lens to a Canon camera. Is that a fact? If so has anyone tried it?

The interesteing comparison will be between the new Sigma ART series 30mm F1.4 sigma and the FA limited 31mm; the new sigma seems to be a bit more than 1/2 the price of the venerable 31mm limited. Of course the sigma 30mm is crop sensor (DA) but, so far, that's all pentax has --

Larger optics/elements frequently mean better results, but at a financial hit. Note how Sigma and other are specifically aiming their glass a full frame

DXO has a new review. It is the sharpest lens ever tested by DxO.
