It could mean absolutely anything. But I'll bite.

Ricoh's entry into the new (ish) retro-styled compact camera with an APS-C sensor market.

I'm in:

camera z(model)G(reen)R(ed)B(rown)s(starting page)H(and)b(ook)n(ew)R(e)v(ison)8

No, nice slogan, nice graphics, if related to a rangefinder camera, great.

It's from Pentax Russia PR manager's page.

GRDV is on the way IMO I'd like to see first WR APS-C camera with fixed lens.

ummm, the OVF(rangefinder) looks a little inboard, should be on the corner to increase the distance from the lens

I think it's an old stock illustration, so it might not mean anything beyond that whoever posted it rather likes it. You can buy a copy here:

The red "a" may be an addition, though.

Yes, it is a lovely image, imho. A new cam from anyone could do a lot worse than be inspired by "Take Me and Let's Go Travel!".

No doubt - it's not the photo of sample of new camera. I don't even think about it... It's just illustration

Daww, thats too bad. It would be interesting to see Ricoh try a retro-style rangefinder. But I guess its just a photo the poster likes and doesnt mean anything

The R1 was their original compact 35mm film camera from the 1980s, and then the GR1 in the early 1990s was a step-up model.

http://www.ricoh.co.jp/camera/cameralist/R1.html

In the digital era the GR became the enthusiast GR Digital while the original R compact evolved into the P&S digital compact RDC models, and then Caplio R series, only to finally disappear when the name changed completely to CX1, CX2 etc. And then there was the GX series which was the GR with a zoom lens. And then the GXR system is a combination of both of the GR and GX names...

So taking a cue from the D in RDC and GRD is just 'Digital', it's probably nothing very imaginative in the other letters either, ie R = Ricoh while the G is probably just Grand or suchlike and C is likely Compact/Camera while the X is just the typical 'Xcellent' or whatever.

PS. Whatever it originally meant, 'GR' has now come to represent the best Ricoh can offer whether it's a compact camera or just the lens itself, ie the 'GR' marque on the two GXR A12 Camera Units lenses.
