Finnaly some positive news!

Best of all its support for a product that's already released and not vaporware rumor-mongering lol

It's the 12th firmware update this year. We shouldn't lose confidence after only 3 weeks of no announcements

From Pentax Japan's site:

Changes to V1.11
  • Improved contrast AF performance.
  • Improved stability for general performance.
  • Note: When update is executed, the camera setting will be returned to default setting. We recommend you to make a memorandum the setting of your camera before updating.
I am seeing an improvement in the AF performance, more decisive and quicker IMHO. Nice upgrade, this Q just keeps getting better

Props to Ricoh-Pentax! The Q has been discontinued and discounted (in more ways than one) and replaced by the Q10, but still the firmware improvements are for both cameras!
Nice.

Wow! I just installed the update and took a shot of the lens cap in front of me with only one light in the room (plus the light from the monitors)
IMPRESSIVE! AF was super fast and locked right on..
Manual mode but AF.

Will enjoy having a play in real light tomorrow.

Good stuff PR!

Q Firware 1.11 Wow

I installed the firware and AF was lightning quick! I would rate it as good as the Panny LX7 which is quite fast.

Dim room, not much contrast no lights on at dusk - AF nearly immediate at close focus range and then directly on an item 25 feet away. Nearly instantaneous!!

01 Prime, Auto ISO (dk) f/2.8 Av 1/60. I don't enable many electronic features such as lens Correction or Shadow/Highlight Correction and shoot RAW. I meter multi-segment and AF Center with smallest possible AF point (oops - that's a K-01 feature).

A few random shots out in the sun this morning.. The Q really flies!
What a terrific update to what was already a great little camera.. True, I could never have justified the original pricing, but I'm so glad I have one now.

(EDIT: Not sure why the forum auto EXIF isn't showing for this image? Manual, 1/500, F4, ISO125, Cloudy WB)

Wonderful improvement in AF. Great job Pentax-Ricoh.
So is the Q/Q10 the fastest focusing Pentax camera?
thanks

oh wow... just updated, dang, blazing fast. And I also noticed that the auto-focus assist light was popping up less in dark situations, also the AF was so fast that it was more of a blink than the usual spot light (I never used it because it would blind people). Since buying the Q at it's release I have yet to regret it.

"We are sorry to inform you that the software version 1.11 is temporary not available."

The link on the front page still works:

But I'm going to wait to see what the deal is before installing.
