K20D arrived in Canada

Dropped by McBain Camera in Edmonton on my way home today and bought one off the shelf.

I found a use for Live View: demoing the SR. Wow. You can switch it on/off while using the live view and it's quite dramatic. Even while zooming the DA*50-135. It's appears to my eyes very similar to looking through a pair of Canon stabilized binoculars - activate it and BAM! steady as a rock.
Wierdness: had to pick my language, city and set the clock the first 4 times I turned it on. Seems it has took now.

Burst mode takes a long long time to empty into the card (a class 4 SDHC).
I'm wondering what effect the automatic fine adjustment feature when setting WB to a preset has. I disabled it (C menu item #12 "White Balance Adjustable Range").

Came with Remote control S/W, probably the same as on their web site, but might just install it off the CD in case it has been tweaked for the K20D.

Anyway, having great fun with my new toy. I'm now a 2-bodied photographer. Kind of nice.

Which McBain did you go to? Was the price $1399?

CameraCanada.com has it in stock as well, for 1399$ body only (with 2GB SD card "bonus"). They also have a kit with the DA*16-50 for 2257.88$.

Meanwhile, Pentax Canada's website still doesn't list the new cameras

The Southgate shop, and yes $1399. They pointed out the 14 day price match policy. They are very good about honouring that. Keep an eye on TheCameraStore in Calgary as they often come in about 10% below most shops in Canada. No sign of it there yet however.

PS - I'm liking it a lot. After setting the dials to match how I have my K10D, they are so similar to use, it's painless to switch between them.

Yes, I always get McBain to match The Camera Store price. It often makes a big difference!

Unfortunately, I won't be getting the K20D any time soon. Buying a house is damned expensive and drains the bank account on a regular basis!

Speaking of Canada, can anyone recommend a camera shop in Ottawa with Pentax gear? I'll be in Ottawa in May for a conference and going back to France with a nice and shiny K20D would be perfect... :-)

There is a Henry's store there I believe. You can find the locations on Henrys.ca Not sure if there are any other stores but Ottawa is a big city so I assume there are some others. You could call or email them to have one held to pick up.

Picked one up at 11AM Tuesday morning at Don's Photo. $1475 for Kit w/18-55 II. I think it was their only one, they did have a K200D that looked pretty nice on quick inspection!

I'm going to drop by the SG shop this weekend and take them up on the price match policy. TheCameraStore in Calgary now has the K20D advertised for $1268 body only.

Actually I can also recommend The Camera Store. Nice people and cool shop to browse in.
I was there last summer and they had a huge stock of Pentax medium format equipment including a giant telephoto lens mounted on a 67 body perched on a tripod looking like it had just taken the money shot of a trophy Bighorn.
But I digress.

In Ottawa (Bank Street) you will find both Vistek and Henry's (I've found Vistek to have a small price point advantage.

Just a quick note to say I bought mine at The Camera Store in Calgary today (1268) and they throw in a Pentax camera bag ($20), six 8x10 prints and a free lesson. Gonna give the lesson and bag to my gf along with my K10 body but the prints will come in handy.

On another note, my K20 seems to have a permanently hot pixel...

At 1475 CAN$ (935 EUR), K20D + grip + 18-55 + 2 batteries + UV filter + 4 GB SD, it is far less than body-only in France (1200 EUR!)

That is frustrating. Montreal is just 6 hours drive from Missisauga (Pentax headquarters) but you can't find the K20D anywhere here. But Edmonton is about 20 hours drive and they have it. What is going on? Pentax should have managed to have it Canada wide about the same time. I can't give pentax top grade for distribution. Still waiting for mine.
