The Olympus XA4 - 4th in the range of the "Professional Photographer's Pocket Camera," had a 28mm f/3.5 Macro lens. The original XA was 35 f/2.8. The GR 18.x would be about a 28 135 equiv., at the wide end but not awful. More for landscape and crowded street / market (and living room) than portrait, I guess.
I was thinking more of the Ricoh A12 (28mm F2.5) module when it was something like $250, and the GXR body was $120. Too late for me now though.

By the way, GXR + A12 28/2.5 is 113.9 mm 70.2 mm 55.6 mm
GR - 117 * 61 *34.7 mm

GR is pocketable.

Anyone here that is NOT familiar with the GRD line... would you please, please visit this article to at least gain a bit of understanding about them before knocking the hell out of it in these comments:

Yes - the pocketable is great, and I am not disliking the new GR, I am just saying it is not a focal length I like to use.

Now that voiceover guy's voice is stuck in my head. I'm going to spend the rest of the day thinking in his voice. I just typed that last sentence with his voice. This one too.

Thanks for that, Ricoh.

Well I think we can conclude that Pentax/Ricoh is not dead and we can stop worrying about that for the coming 12 months.

That is a fantastic article - lends credence to my suspicion that I would use a GRD the way I currently use an XA - f/5.6 zone focused - quick - then back in the pocket. FWIW, Ricoh FF-1 was the XA contemporary.

I posted this in the comments on the teaser page - it's strange to me that no one knows about this line of cams.

Search my photostream for "grd3" and you'll see what two generations back of this cam line produce. Flickr: chickentender? (Eyewanders Foto)'s Photostream
I agree Chickentender

Some history and design philosophy of the Camera line here UPDATE: I see you posted this same link earlier
The Ricoh GR Digital Camera: A Philosophy of Design

Some photos to see what folks can do when limited to a single focal length camera they carry around easily.

Ricoh GR-D (I,II,III,IV): Post your photos! - Rangefinderforum.com

Unless Ricoh blows this, I will own one. Otherwise, the Coolpix A or Leica X2. Yes, I don't want the Fuji X100(s)

The video quotes a 1-second startup-shutdown time. Just imagine if it has a button just for that .

Instead of copying what other manufacturers have already done, they could have made the camera much more useful by giving it a lens between 35mm and 50mm, with a 40mm probably being the best compromise. Spending that much on a camera that can only do such a wide angle is ridiculous. Yes, I know you can crop, but it's not the same - cropping is for fine-tuning composition, not for trying to turn a 28mm lens into a telephoto or normal.
