Instead of copying what other manufacturers have already done, they could have made the camera much more useful by giving it a lens between 35mm and 50mm, with a 40mm probably being the best compromise. Spending that much on a camera that can only do such a wide angle is ridiculous. Yes, I know you can crop, but it's not the same - cropping is for fine-tuning composition, not for trying to turn a 28mm lens into a telephoto or normal.
It is far easier on a "move your feet camera" to go closer than it is to move further away. This is especially true with people photos indoors.

Not to mention, 40mm is bordering on portrait lens territory on APSC. Walkaround primes are usually between 20 and 35mm. 18 gives the FOV of most compact cams and phones.

Or if we are talking about FF, that would be 60mm, 30-50mm, and 24mm.

There is an in-camera 35mm mode which should have around 10 Mpix, so no problem for those who want a longer FL.

Nice camera but not for me. I got a dslr because I didn't want to limit myself to one focal length, any one focal length.

NaCl(I want more versatility than just 28mm or just 35mm or just 50mm or just...)H2O

Well, it's a trade-off to be certain. I love options, and I pack my K models a fair amount of the time... but I bought a GRDIII so that I did not HAVE to carry a DSLR if I chose not to, and there've been countless situations in which I've been really happy with that decision. And, as Aristophanes said, it's far far easier to move toward a subject in most cases than it is to back away (with your "zoom" feet).

Finally a thoughtful remark around here.

It seems that 35mm crop function is available, which gives a 10MP image.
A 50mm compact? A bit too narrow for a fixed lens compact. I know from my experience, that 47mm on Q is not always the happiest solution.
For a fixed lens camera, 28mm and 35mm work best, IMHO.

They didn't copy others, others copied them. The GR and GRD line has long featured a 28mm lens.

Sigma makes a couple small big sensor cameras with longer lenses.

Garry Winogrand shot with 28mm nearly exclusively, occasionally he'd switch to a 35mm because he'd want a change of pace. Then again Henri-Cartier Bresson shot almost exclusively with 135mm. So I guess it's really just a mater of preference what prime focal length you prefer. Most people prefer 35mm or 50mm but some really outstanding examples go outside of these ranges.

Best,

Better than the first translation attempt:

"Be your eyes... because the GR will pull your eyes from their sockets and replace them with itself."

If the specs and data is true, just this new lens in the new GR can put many Pentax lenses to knees. And it's more modern and better coated than Leica's Elmarit.

This lens in GR is worth the asking money alone!
