New official Ricoh GR (2013) video

I just noticed that Ricoh Pentax uploaded a new movie on Youtube (I got a mail from Youtube notifying me of any new uploads from RICOH Pentax):

Ricoh GR: Upcoming APS-C Compact - Pentax Camera News & Rumors - PentaxForums.com

?? - YouTube

I know nothing about the GR series but it's indeed a new (2013) model

And indeed a 28mm equiv. lens and APS-C sensor.

Thanx

Why couldn't they design the Pentax K-01 just like this camera? It also has a APS-C sensor just as the K-01. All it needs is a Pentax K mount.

Oops, I should have watched it more carefully when it was still viewable. At least we now know it's APS-C and has a 28mm equivalent lens with 9 aperture blades.

Interesting that the video is already out - when is the release supposed to be?

MichaelBilson: It wouldn't be quite the same because of the K-mount register distance, but still: Take a compact body like this and add a "tube" for the K-mount and a recessed "XS" lens in the 18-24 mm range (i.e. a lens not adding more to the camera depth than the XS40) and it would certainly be more compact than the K-01. With a thin or recessed lens mounted, it would be small indeed.

Look at the NEX-7 with 50mm vs the K-5 with FA43: Compact Camera Meter

Without the lens hood, the K-5+FA43 is actually slightly thinner.

I saw it too.. 16.2MPX APS-C sensor, 18.3mm (28mm equiv.) lens, f/2.8, focus assist (peaking?), fast AF, 9 aperture blades.

The video made much of it being the world's most compact APS-C camera, lens retracts, a dedicated button on the side for effects (art filter-type stuff), start up time 1 sec (IIRC), AF normal 0.2 sec, AF macro 0.4 sec, entirely new lens with coating on all its elements (they emphasized flare resistance here), up to 4 fps (but didn't say whether this is JPEG or RAW), focus position can be selected using a moving crosshair on the LCD - that's all I recall.

Me too, a great marketing video, the one only few can see, really hits the spot with the masses.

Who wants the Ricoh GR official teaser?

Guess who was lucky enough to download the video when it was available?

I re-uploaded it and you can download it from here (34 MB):

Download ?? - YouTube.mp4 from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

(to be downloaded with Firefox; iLivid adware if downloaded with Internet Explorer)

download the video
What tool did you use to manage that?
Usually when I try and dig YouTube videos out of my browser cache I end up with lots of 1 MB files that are only sections of the whole video.

Thanks for the thoughts, I didn't think about that. At least it would be much better looking than the K-01. I wouldn't mind a big lens as long as the body is smaller than a Pentax K-5.
