I seen comparisonpictures from dpreview before that obviously not were in focus and maybe the cameras focusplane are different so you can get a lot of results dependeing on what you give priority to.
Am I completely way off?

Jaggies is an aliasing artifact, most likely generated by the JPEG engine/settings.

You are correct about the upper right feather and leaf. The other 3 corners look sharp in that relative region, You can actually look at the opposite feathers/grass section in the GR shot to see the difference. I can't imagine why, as the feather/grass should be equal distance to the camera...

Did I see something about charging the battery with a USB connector?

Also, what do you all think this means for the GXR system???
There is a comment on the other thread about the Ricoh line on the special Ricoh page at the Pentax.jp site prominently showing the GXR

It looks like the Ricoh has some lens decentering or something. Look at the color wheels at 100%. The lower left one is distinctly sharper than the one at upper right.

Indeed! Surprising given that the extreme corners are so much better than on the Nikon.

Here is a crop of the far left and far right parts of the image at 200%. Notice the magenta/green color shift from the longitudinal chromatic aberration. Looks like to focus plane was not parallel to the subject.

Also, here's a 100% crop of the part of the playing cards from the lower left as well as the upper right. The lower left is much sharper.

I hope this is just a bad sample. I'm not familiar with Ricoh's level of quality control.

Devorama, there are also some crops in the DPReview report (such as the 100% crop of the top left corner) in which the Nikon looks out of focus or decentered and the Ricoh looks good. Regrettably, it's always possible.

Meanwhile, just for jollies... here's a camera size comparison between the Sony RX100, the new Ricoh GR and the Nikon A:

Compact Camera Meter

The Ricoh is a bit longer than the RX100 but actually a tick more slim. This will be a great pocket camera and likely to make it into my kit.

GR | PENTAX RICOH IMAGING

Somewhere in Ricoh Pentax HQ, in a product brainstorming session:
"So we're going to release this in 15 color combinations okay? I see a Hello Kitty special edition, and a Mobile Suit Gundam Wing version..."
<SLAP!>
"Okay, how many times do we need to explain this. We're Ricoh now. We make cameras. If your idea is an existing product in a different color, please put your ID on the table and leave the room. Now does anyone have an idea for a ca-mer-ah?

And I swear, if you mention the color of the body, you get another slap."
"Sir, Marc Newson is calling again on line..."
"On the line you're going to hang up now? Excellent."

This does support the suspicion that the Nikon's lens is really weak in the corners.

The tip of the white towel in the lower right corner is also showing bad CAs.
Heck, that one shows the GR better in the center as well.

In all the DPR samples, don't ignore the text samples from the centers.
IMHO, it shows that ommitting the Bayer-AA filter in a 16 MP APS-C camera can have a negative impact. For all who tend to think that moiré is a ghost ...

The only complaint so far would be that the 808 isn't exactly as responsive as a good stand-alone camera (it is ok, but this is a one picture after another camera).

So, I am wondering why nobody builds an 808-alike dedicated camera: small and capable, but with improved ergonomics for the enthusiast photographer and for action.
I think they need a crazy lens for the 808, CZ with all aspheric elements IIRC. It would be awesome if they could scale it up to APS-C or u4/3 size sensor in a form factor similar to GR or Coolpix A with 100+ MP and a heap of electronics to make something reasonable out of it (either that or satisfy the film lovers by fitting only 24 raw exposures on a 32 GB memory card). Sony or Samsung would probably be the most likely partners for a project like that but I doubt it would happen given phone business rivalries.

No excitement in knowing you wont lose the features from the GRD series, but will gain some from Pentax? I'm so excited about this camera, if I had the wherewithal I would be pre-ordering. I have to wait, damn.

+1. No doubt about it for me. Its been a long time since I really got excited about a camera (the last was the X100 and I still really like that)

Well, Ken Rockwell has chimed in with his thoughts on the GR:

"No viewfinder of any kind (just hold it in front of your face like an iPhone to compose), no aperture or shutter-speed dials. It's like a car without a steering wheel; technical progress to some people means that critical functions be delegated to a menu or button and dial system.

Good luck!

The Fuji X100s is so much better; mine just arrived."

He is demonstrating a real lack of understanding...
