Samyang 16mm f/2.0

I also dislike built-in hoods. I actually had the built-in hood removed from my Tokina AT-X 17mm f3.5, because it prevented me from mounting my 77mm filters. It's nice to have a set of lenses that are compatible with one's entire set of accessories, and built-in hoods are a detriment to that.

That's funny. They act like 571g is small. At that weight, with 77mm filters, this lens is a beast.

This lens is bound to be very expensive. Otherwise, the 14mm f/2.8 (which is one of my favorite lenses, BTW) has no more place in the lineup. I don't expect it to be any cheaper than the 24mm f/1.4.

My only gripe with the 14mm is its size, and it actually weighs less than this new lens. I always take it on hikes, but I really have to cram it in the bag. For that reason, I'm pining for a DA15 instead.

I think this new 16mm lens would be awesome for night shots and indoor photography. Landscapes? Not so much. You'd be much better served by the DA15, which is way smaller, or the 14mm f/2.8, which is bound to be way cheaper.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. $600 for a 24mm f1.4 (which may have never existed before for the K mount) is not what I would consider "expensive." It's a lot to pay, but there is obviously value in it. If the 16mm f2.0 is also $600...I may have to think twice about purchasing it. But I'll probably still get it.

In comparison, I recently shot something with Canon's $2400 14mm f2.8 lens. It was disappointing. The quality was noticeably lower than the lenses in my kit (including my Samyangs). Luckily, the Canon was just a rental. I don't see any way to justify paying $2400 for it, unless the money is simply not an issue.

Except that the Samyang 14mm is a FF ultra-wide angle lens, and this 16mm is an APS-C only 24mm "equivalent" lens.

Good point. Yet even when used on APS-C cameras, they give a FoV of 21mm and 24 mm lenses respectively. I would not see these as mutually exclusive in a lens line-up.

FWIW, that's the same list price as the 14/2.8. Street price should fall to similar levels in a year or so.

This looks like an interesting lens. As far as I know it's the fastest lens under 20mm available for Pentax mount. If it's anything like their 14mm lens, then it should be great for astrophotography. I don't think it will take away from sales of the 14mm, since that has full frame coverage. I hope the 10mm f2.8 lens that they announced last year is available soon. I'm planning to trade my 14mm lens for that. I would buy this 16mm lens too if I had the money.

I would seriously consider this, if I didn't already have the 14mm f2.8. Seems like a more friendly focal length, with a slight speed boost, at a good price.

They should listen to you. Sell them cheaply, preferably to me.

I`ve got the 14, 15 and the 16-50 but if priced well and performance is good I will buy this without letting one of the others go
