The WG-3 is very successful in professional applications. Dentists and auto shops seem to buy them up and so do the outdoor enthusiasts. The Mx-1 has been doing really well in Asia.

Yup. We bought a pair of WG10's for our auto shop. Can't believe how awesome it is for our uses.

Kit lenses offer exceptional value and produce more than acceptable IQ for 90% of the market at these price points. They won't MF so that's no issue. They change lenses so infrequently a metal mount is not needed. About the only gripe I have is the lack of a hood, with its $3 production cost. I find that overly cheap IMO.

WR adds comfort to the use of the camera, for soccer moms, hikers, etc.

It's a good move.
I've got both lenses. I don't have a problem with having a WR kit lens, that makes sense. Will the DA L plastic mount make such a difference to the manufacturing cost, or is there something else I'm missing, that will be such a big cost saver between a newly made DA L WR (which will have to be more expensive to manufacture than the current DA L) and an existing DA WR?

Glad to read, maybe they are right to push into that direction as well then.
It's funny how usage differs from someone to another!

Leica will announce their newest creation two days before that too .. Unfortunately, their expensive new toy doesn't look like a system camera, but rather collapsible APS-C zoom. Which is interesting though ... People were asking for a GR type of camera with a zoom, not just fixed focal length lens. Maybe Pentax can do something in that arena, which is far more interesting than this boring DSLR game.

I agree with Heie, it's great to see Pentax is alive and getting out new products. I just hope the K-50 isn't a another marketing hoax of the french online store but a reality soon to hit the stores. At least one serious german magazine already picked this up:

Pentax K-50: Alle Details zur Oberklasse-DSLR geleakt - News - CHIP Online

Let's hope the best.

So the K-30 is a Pontiac Fiero?

Any small camera that an hang from a backpack or be put on a workbench where a smartphone dare not go is where dedicated P&S cams have to go...

...because the smartphone will suck up almost everything else.

And the K-50 is good, but Pentax still needs a smaller, cheaper option.

It does have a nice Macro mode as well I hear. And you can wash it too when you're done, so no worry about getting it soiled while handling tissue samples :-)

You guys are really good at reminding me why I stopped reading this forum.

The K-50 is an iterative update of the K-30, with slightly improved specs, slightly smaller, and so on. Why are you whipping yourselves into a frenzy over it?

The introduction of a DA-L WR lens is a great move, IMO. I'm also not sure where you guys are getting the idea that the K-50 is going to be as expensive as a K-5 II—if past pricing is anything to go by, the price will probably be a direct replacement of the Euro symbol with the dollar sign = $699, probably selling cheaper from the get-go online. Extremely reasonable considering what you get.
