I would instantly get the DAL 35 2.4

The DAL 50, maybe if I ever decide I need a fast 50 again for sure.

This is a pretty decent camera. Two dials, higher iso capabilities. Stereo in movie mode. I suspect that most of the changes are internal. probably a manufacturing upgrade more than a user upgrade. I wonder if it supports UHS-1 SD cards, and if the movie mode is fully functional. That would make it an upgrade for the user.

Any word on pricing yet? Just curious, as I just bought a K-30.
699 Euros is what is listed.

Must be a polycarbonate body, not magnesium alloy, as the weight is identical to the K-30. Besides, when has Pentax produced a metal body in something other than black?

New models are a good thing but I have a hard time answering the question "If a potential buyer didn't buy a K-30, why would they now buy a K-50?" (assuming the leaked specs are correct).

Looks like photoshopping near the MF/AF button. I'm calling shenanigans. (I'd be happy to be wrong, of course!)

Well, you nailed me on that one. Not that I've ever seen a Silver Edition but I guess I was thinking of metal body produced in a "color" (which I don't really consider silver to be).

I think its bogus. There is inconsistent data in the battery usage and if they are looking to ruin their line up by making 2 identical models this will do it. A product range needs differentiation. And it better not be a k-30 replacement as its identical. End of story.

I've never seen the silver K-5 in real life but by the pictures compared to the pictures of the K-5 chassis pictures, it looks to be painted silver. If true, it would technically be produced in a "color"

Nope, K50 it's quite genuine.

But the nomenclature is confusing, because Pentax was indeed readying the K3 for September 2012; K30 was an intermediate model to accompany that K3. Now when K3 was not introduced, but the K5II, the namesake of K30 was taken. Therefore this year we have .. K50.
There will be K500 too.

Confused still? Of course. Because like in every good (Greek) drama, a lot is happening off stage, and the Pentax drama is worthy of both Sophocles and Shakespeare together.

If the specs and prices are indeed correct, this is fantastic news. It's repositioning the K30, while improving on it.
- It's being released 100 euros cheaper than the K30 was (I think), making it a true entry-level offering.
- Despite that, it's now made of magnesium alloy, which is unheard of in that category.
- It has everything that's good about the K30 - pentaprism, WR, twin control dials - also unique in the category.
- It can be bought with WR DAL lenses. The price list also mentions a WR DAL 50-200 kit for 799 euros.

I can't see why anyone would be disappointed in this as an entry model. These features are not available from competing brands until the enthusiast models (D7100, 7D, A77). And surely changing the colour is just a matter of putting different dye in the coating material. I have seen plenty of silver K-7s and K-5s. They are not exposed metal. They have a silver coloured coating over the metal chassis instead of a black-dyed coating.

I bet the magnesium body is an error. Colours and magnesium don't mix. It looks to me like a smaller, lower priced K-30 replacement.
