The body looks reminiscent of a K20D. I like it.

Put it this way, in the last 2 years Pentax/Ricoh haven't release a single DSLR model that makes me, a classic K-5 owner, feels like an all-round upgrade....

K-50, if it is true would be fantastic for new comers and people upgrading from pre-K-5 bodies, us K-5 owners would just have to wait till the end of the year to see what the high end replacement model brings....if I am honest, if only they just keep the K-5IIs body and focus system, incorporate Focus Peaking and de-cripple the K mount, even still using a 16.3mp sensor would be a justifiable upgrade- -
I agree fully. I would want more pixelies tho.

I hope at least they'll announce a couple of lenses. Like the ltd. zoom...

I don't think so - they say 14-bit RAW is not possible with Prime M.

I think they did it purposely to keep k-30 a bit lower than k-5. I would buy k-50 if they fix that.

Ah, I have guessed the name quite right (in a post of 5 weeks ago).
However, whiners, please knock it off; we at PF are happy to see Pentax alive and kicking.
And as in every good chess play, Pentax first moves pawns and knights, to make some room for heavy artillery, king and queen.

It looks like a Nikon, even has similar button layout near shutter release. Quite dull styling wise, shame that Pentax have retreated into conformity here. I guess the conservative market has spoken and the k-30 was too much. I hope they maintain the unique styling philosophy for future models, it is something unique to Pentax beyond the functional and conservative generic DSLR conformity of Canon and Nikon.

Also, it is not a magnesium alloy chassis. The body is polycarbonate as the strap lugs are consistent with Pentax's plastic on steel body configuration. Not that it is a bad thing, polycarbonate will wear more subtly. Also the fact it comes in different colours is another reason it is plastic.

Still, I don't understand why they would bother to make this as it is so close to the k-30, do they think the change in styling will make that much of a difference to sales?

I'm slightly confused by this product. Is it cheaper than the k-30 at introduction? Is it cheaper than the k-30 current prices?

My feeling is that it will be black only. The K-30 will still be around available in a 'billion' colors.

Any word on pricing yet? Just curious, as I just bought a K-30.

Hmm a DAL WR kit lens with no Quick Shift, no hood, plastic bayonet, no distance scale, plastic sticker on the side instead of metal one, simple silver painted deco instead of dark green metallic one, but maintain the WR... Looks like Pentax/Ricoh is firmly committed to fully WR it's entry level DSLR line without increasing the cost. Just hope they have similar thinking regarding their other lenses(I am looking at you Limiteds), come to think of it, what would people's reaction be to a WRed DAL 35 f2.4 or DAL 50 f1.8?
