No a deal breaker, but the lack of video AF is an issue.

I doubt they removed video AF going from the K-30 to the K-50.

Some seems to read the threads just to find things to complain about. If everything suck I don't even know why they shoot with Pentax.

I hope you will stay. Just skip PentaxForums for some days and come back reading the positive sections. I think the rest of this year will be very exiting, with several other announcements.

Because they liked Pentax for who they were ~5 years ago? And they are now locked in, unable to afford the hassle of selling all gear and buying a complete new line up?

Before the K5, different tier cameras were very different from eachother. It meant different IQ, different features and clearly different sensors. See the K110D, K200D, K20D, KR, K7, etc... Worlds of difference between the models.

But now, there is this whole range of different tier cameras, that seem to the have the same insides. Which is why I haven't seen any reason to upgrade since buying the K5. Since the K5, no Pentax DSLRs have been released that really differ from eachother like the different models did before 2010.

It seems like they are desperate to issue "new" models, and revert to recycling 2010 technology over and over and over again to keep bringing cameras to the market and to keep making money off of uninformed newbies.

It only confirms that Pentax is struggling.

Canon has had the same sensor in its whole line-up of Aps-c cameras for years the 7D is more out dated than the original K-5 but everyone screams that Pentax is struggling by doing the same thing I just do not understand why everyone expects Pentax to stray from the norm and go out on a limb and take big risk when it could be the down fall if it did not work.

I agree with Heie, it's great to see Pentax is alive and getting out new products. I just hope the K-50 isn't a another marketing hoax of the french online store but a reality soon to hit the stores. At least one serious german magazine already picked this up:

Yes, I saw this too, but they say their source is the same french online store we talk about here, so nobody knows what's going to happen. Or has someone more detailed information?

That setup is just as good now as it was five years ago.
I just don't see the need to only focus on every small negative thing for ages when there are positive things in the works.

Because Canon is doing the same thing that got them +50% of the global SLR market. Pentax is doing the same thing that got them <5%.

I really don't get it ... K-30 has a great distinctive design, it looks contemporary and this K-50 looks like a grandfather. Really sad.

If this is a real camera, I will be very tempted to buy one as a second body. I can understand why many people like the distinctive (one may say "Pentaxesque" - though it's not easy!) styling of the K-30, but I was always a bit put off by its angularity and textural mix. I'm afraid to admit, that I've always liked the rounded features of Canon bodies, though I can't see myself ever buying one.

yup. Pentax is releasing the same camera for the 4th time (if you dont count the k-01)
it is kind of depressing. but then, I remember what was on the lens roadmap for this year (Limited zoom, wide zoom, a new wide-short tele DA* zoom, a TC) and probably a new camera. but then again, the first half of the year has passed and there is a lot of stuff on that list. And even if it comes out, it is going to be expensive. And great. Or bad. But Pentax. Or Ricoh.
Whats most important, this IS the year Pentax releases the full frame. Right? Have all the rumors been false? IT CANT BE!
