Well, the K-50 isn't actually going to ship until the fall...

There isn't really any reason to upgrade. All they really changed was the body, WR kit lens, and expanded the ISO to 51,200.

The K-50 is not really an upgrade to the K-30 - just one stop higher ISO and a new body style as far as I can see.

The k-50 is not really an 'upgrade' from the k-30. More like a 'refresh', they changed the body style and tweaked a few things but certainly not enough to justify changing. And as noted the k-50 won't be around for some months yet and will be significantly higher in price than the current k-30 cost. The k-30 is a real bargain right now. My son's girl friend is looking for a DSLR and the k-30 is what I'm recommending for her. More camera for her budget than anything else out there. She also mentioned the k-50 and I gave the same advice: buy the k-30 right now there is not enough difference in the k-50 to wait and then pay more.

And it is just a mid-level camera.

Thank you all for your input. I love the K30 and am very happy with the images it is producing. Just wanted to get some feed back from you all and am appreciative of your honest answers. Jana

If you are happy, don't spend money just to spend it...spend money on lenses
Especially since you have focus peaking,, there are lots of desireable manual focus lenses out there waiting to be bought

Not really unless you want a different color.

I don't understand what you need the focus peeking for when you use manual lenses.

Focus Peaking lets the camera operator know what exactly they are focusing on. Very useful feature that I wish my Kr had :-(. Oh it's used when in LV mode.

The K-5o doesn't have a stereo mic jack, correct?

Well, if K50 isn't going to ship until the fall (norther hemisphere summer has just started), and all new upper class cameras until the winter, Pentax Ricoh might have announced all of them at once, right now. I mean, what's the difference?
