F/50; yup, I don't think we'll need to focus.

f11 would be pretty soft due to diffraction.
But then maybe it will be 'sharp enough' for normal viewing, which is the case from my experience of using f11 for macro (though I much prefer f8).
The Q was not meant for pixel peeping anyway.

If its equivalent to 11.5mm FL, sharp enough for normal viewing and cheap, it might be a pretty fun UWA option.

11.5mm is the actual focal length of the 07 lens.

Which on the q would make it roughly equivalent to around 60mm?

Yes, on Q/Q10 the 07 Mount Shield Lens gives you approximately the same field of view as a 65mm lens on a 24x36 camera and on Q7 as a 50mm lens on a 24x36 camera.

Excuse me but I don't understand why this is called a 'shield' lens. Or as some are calling it a 'cap' lens? What does that actually entail? Does this go on top of another lens like a lens cap? Otherwise if it simply mounts directly like any other lens then it's just a 60mm pancake, isn't it?

It's a 'body cap'. It 'shields' the sensor. It doesn't go on top of another lens.

It is very similar to a 60mm pancake - except that a pancake lens would usually have, say, 4 elements; and a pinhole lens has none or one.

It's not even a pancake - we don't know what the optics are yet but it may be a single lens. It mounts directly to the camera body in place of a body cap and is very similar to pinhold setups people have made using body caps and such. I think the term Shield is used to indicate that it is used instead of the body cap and is different enough to attract attention.

Okay, gotchya, thanks, so it's not a lens cap, it's a body cap.

I expect them to be performing to the same level.

If you're looking for a sharp lens, you're not looking for a pinhole.

I think 95+% of the purchasers of a pinhole lens realize this.

"Pinhole lens" is a contradiction in terms. A brief perusal of shots made with the Olympus body cap lens shows sharpness you'd never get from an actual pinhole. That isn't to say it's a sharp lens -- it certainly isn't -- but it is a lens.

It's probably just recycling lenses from smartphones.

And any lens can be sharp at its convergence is my understanding.

I think $50 is a good price for Pentax and for us.
