It's not even a pancake - we don't know what the optics are yet but it may be a single lens. It mounts directly to the camera body in place of a body cap and is very similar to pinhold setups people have made using body caps and such. I think the term Shield is used to indicate that it is used instead of the body cap and is different enough to attract attention.
