New 07 Mount Shield Lens

For the Pentax Q:

Pentax is also rumored to announce the Q7 mirrorless camera that will have a 1/1.7 inch sensor. The previous Q10 model had a 1/2.3" sensor. There will be a new 07 Mount Shield Lens pictured below - basically a lens cap that ca be used as a 11.5mm f/9 pinhole lens:

Interesting to me as well. I'd try that 07 cap/lens.

I can't wait to test this lens. Will it hold its ground, or will it take the title of worst lens ever away from olympus

It's a pinhole, what would you expect? Paper-thin DOF? Extreme sharpness?

Wasn't this pinhole lens shown at an earlier trade show, or at least announced in an earlier press release? Without* the mention of another sensor size for a new Q of course. And IIRC also without specifying an actual focal length?

Wim

* corrected typo

Yes it was: announced in the roadmap and presented as a prototype at the CP+ trade show in Yokohama, Japan, on January 31st, without any mention of focal length or maximum aperture and under the tentative name of "Mount Cap Lens" instead of 07 Mount Shield Lens.

I'll probably get one just to have a more secure body cap, as opposed to the push-in style that easily pops off and leaves the sensor very exposed. But as a Q lens I suspect this will make a rather costly lomo kit.

No. Not new.

Olympus debuted one awhile ago.

Clever idea.

But it should come with auto-vignette. It's a pinhole for pity's sake!!

Note that the Olympus variation is more sophisticated: you can choose between 0.3m and infinite as focusing distance (the third position of the "focus ring" is for storage).

F/9 on the current Q is deep into diffraction territory, making a focusable version completely useless. So the Pentax version is perfectly "good" as is.
