Some of the reviews indicate that the K-30 will continue in the line up. Anyone know if this is true?

Did a small spreadsheet of Pentax K-500 vs Nikon D3200 vs Canon 100D specifications.
It's quite obvious that K-500 has much better specifications than other entry level cameras, and on specification can compete with higher level cameras,

I presume you mean there are no focus point indicators in the viewfinder (same as K-x) rather than no focus confirmation (the green blob)?

I doubt Pentax will continue manufacture it, but it will be sold as long there is camera available.

Not everyone will agree with you. I don't for a start. That said, I don't buy cameras on looks, unless all other features are the same.
Sure, you are right. Tastes are different. Should have stressed that this is just my opinion.
Btw. I have chosen the K30 for its features and handling. When I finally got it the design came as icing on the cake

Probably cheaper to just have one productionline where this body is made, with the difference in sealing. I think a great move. Downgrading the K-500 is simply not in IQ but in a few things that make it cheaper (no sealing and no Li-ION battery and charger and a cheaper kitlens).
If I understood correctly, K-500 is AA battery only, and will not have li-ion option.

Edit: I think I understood wrong. According to dpreview K-500 can use both, so the K-500 must include the AA battery adapter + AA batteries, and K-50 includes li-ion battery and charger.

I think these are decent moves. I think forumites overstate the importance of styling. People don't buy a K30 based on its looks, just as they didn't buy a Canon XSI based on its looks. To the uninitiated, they all look like cameras and that's about it (the one exception was the K-01, but that's another story). People buy based on price and features -- sometimes based on reviews. I would think that both the K500 and K50 would review fairly well, particularly if someone is focused on still photography. Although, of course, DP Review will ding them for no dedicated video button. Oh well...

The biggest seller for Pentax in the last several years was clearly the kx. This was a camera that did not have sealing, did not have auto focus points visible, but had a great sensor and a great price. This is the niche that the K500 is targeting and it looks about perfect to me. If Pentax can save money by having the same base for the K50 and K500 then, it's all good. Particularly if the K50 price runs in the 550 range and the K500 ends up running in the 450 range.

That's correct.
Note the 4xAA Lithium have much better life than the little Li-ion battery available.

The complete 5 line means only one thing. Pentax resets his lineup and starts from now a new era! the next cameras will be completely different and maybe they will start with ff in late 2013 - early 2014!!

Another difference seems to be that you get 5 fps out on AA, and 6 fps with li-ion.

Entry level with a pentaprism. Awesome.
But... do the customers care (i.e. do the buyers of a Canon Rebel know what a Pentaprism is)?

The best video capabilities having Pentax camera (that is in production) still does not have an external mic jack?

If they put their eye on the viewfinder, they will notice the difference. If...
