Imaging-Resource.com just reviewed the lens:
Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens review: Awesomely fast lens, awesomely low ($799!) price

I find it funny, and kind of sad, that this is the fastest wide angle AF lens available for Pentax, and it's a zoom. Pentax, where are my fast, wide angle (preferably WR) primes?
it's fastest wide angle AF zoom lens on many other systems too...

the price makes it very interesting as as 16-50 replacement. Loose some range but gain speed!

Maybe I wasn't clear, but I was pointing out that it is the fastest wide angle AF lens of any kind for Pentax, zoom or not (tied with the old 20mm and 24mm f/1.8 primes also from Sigma).

Indeed, AFAIK, besides the ultra-rare M 35mm f/1.4, the FA 31 is the only wide angle lens faster than f/2 Pentax has ever produced, and is obviously only wide angle on FF.

A shame it's a "DC" lens which is Sigma's designation for APS-C only. Of course I realize that covering a full frame image circle at f/1.8 may require a much greater feat of engineering. In all honesty, I don't know how they managed it even on APS-C, but still, such a lens can't be used on film and so is of limited value to me. How 'bout an f/2 24-70 for film?

With this lens and a new Pentax (semi-pro?) APS-C body (which I'm sure is on its way) I can live without FF Pentax for the next two years

Thank you Sigma for making this possible for Pentax, no more daydreaming of Pentax's Limited zoom.

I have not seen many lens tests as positive as this one.

The technical SLRGear lens review link is here:
Sigma Lens: Zooms - Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM "A" (Tested) - SLRgear.com!

seems quite sharp even wide-open, moderate CA, but some slightly weird distortion is going on, SLRGear says. Note too that everyone has been reviewing a prototype pre-production version of the lens so far.

For the first time ever, Sigma will have my money. I thought it will be priced at $1200 and was like "forget about it", but at $799? wow, aggressive pricing!

This will be my first ever non-PENTAX lens. Way to go Sigma!

LOL

Very good news of course.

Makes me wonder if they will add Pentax mounts to some of the already-delivered glass.

Suddenly the DA* 16-50 looks uncool specially with it's current pricing.
