Remember all that yelling about Pentax lens prices.

This is the market response.

Sigma is saying to K-mount Pentax, if you won't take care of your customers...we will.

And we'll take their money too.

Pentax bodies and Sigma lenses is a great combination.

I've got four Sigma lenses already (10-20/3.5, 28/1.8, 70/2.8, 100-300/4) and they are all excellent.

I've got a lot of great Pentax glass as well, but I'm very reluctant to buy new Pentax glass. SDM lenses are out of the question and prices have been too high since many years now.

Definitely agree although Nikon gives you 5 years warranty (I've heard complaints about their customer service though, hopefully I don't have to find out) and Tamron gives you 5+ I think???

It's pretty astonishing to think you could spend over a thousand dollars on a lens (from multiple brand names) only to have it fail 1 year later and you're on your own
Nikon gives two years in OZ on certain items and one year on others. My very expensive TC-14E II only gets a one year warranty here.

LOL, maybe we should whine for "other stuff" at Sigma, instead of Pentax?

No problem. I don't think that our state-of-the-ancient-art screw-driven AF can get any slower!

Besides, we're all used to it

Screw-driven AF is pretty fast in my opinion. I would almost agree with photouniverse
, that, SDM/USM etc is a solution to a problem that nobody has.
DA/FA Ltd's have a really fast AF.

I actually agree with you, I just forgot to type in "/sarcasm" after my post.

Many reviews knock the Tamron 70-200 for focus speed.

It's at least twice as fast on Pentax as it is on Nikon. It's noisy but quick.

With HSM you'd hope the speed would be (more) similar across camera brands but who knows.

This is a hard one. Great price, great specs. Just missing weather sealing and lacking sufficient wide angle.

Thing is I *should* replace my DA*16-50/2.8 as its AF is starting to require waking up whenever I use it. No problem since it works perfectly after about a minute on camera and then it's ok for the rest of the day, but I fear the day may come it might no longer wake up. Warranty is long expired (it's a "first batch" copy), so I would rather replace it than have it repaired.

This Sigma 18-35/1.8 would be a great alternative. Doesn't match up as nicely with the rest of my "zoom" kit though (the Sig 8-16 and DA*50-135).

Wonder whether it can stand use in the wild (dust, rain, ...) as well as Pentax's DA* glass?

I'm really hopeful that Pentax would someday replace the 16-50 with a second gen lens without SDM and more resistant to flare. That's the biggest thing about the 16-50 and it doesn't look to me like this Sigma solves that problem.

Too much for too little

Well if Sigma can fit all of that in such an economy priced lens I'll be impressed
No expecting much....everyone is hyped on price and speed.....
Get real people......IQ will suffer....forget the daydream specs if your images are crap
I forgot why I gave my Sigma's away.........?
Ohh ...... now I remember!....IQ
