Why not use both? Different lenses for different purposes.
Far be it from me to disagree with the voice of reason, but If I had to guess, I would say that for many people on this site for whom photography is just a hobby, there would often be financial reasons, or (as in my case) marital reasons, to not own both lenses.

I can definitely understand the financial reasons!. I have not decided if I will sell my Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 when I get one of these or not.

For some reason no one test lenses for flare although I have found it be among the most important aspect of lens quality.
+1 to that. Just bought the DA15 one week ago, and I am just amazed by its flare resistance.

probably because it is a weakness for this particular lens - ALL the sigma lenses I own have issues with flare, I don't expect this one to be any different.

Flare is generally a weakness of zoom, fast lenses. The more large optical elements, the more flare prone lens.

???
Lenstip.com reviews always test for flare, and their Sigma 18-35 tests are here:

I went to the Children's Museum here in Indianapolis a few weeks ago, and I couldn't stop thinking about what a perfect lens the 18-35mm would have been. And today I'm going to the Indiana State Fair, and if I had the 18-35mm I would probably just go with that. I don't think I'm going to be able to hold out very long once this lens is released.

Considering that it doesn't even seem to be out for Nikon yet, and the fact that it took over 6 months after the Canon release for the 35mm f/1.4 to come out for Pentax, I wouldn't be holding my breath for the 18-35mm anytime soon.

Good--because I'm broker than I was when I pre-ordered. I got the standard "Backorder Status" email from B&H a couple of days ago.
