It's a great lens (I have it on my Sigma SD1M) and well worth waiting for. Should be amazing on the K-3!

Actually, for what it is, the price is pretty good. But far too HEAVY ... (though I may still bite at some stage, for "home" use).

One could say this only proves the Pentax lens is astronomically overpriced.

Agreed. I thought that since day one though... only reason I bought it was to complete my FA collection.

Overpriced? It depends ...

... I don't like comparing the sharpness only. What about other attributes?

Sharpness and low light are what I want out of a lens like this. This also just told me I am not going to get the FA31, even if I found one for 800ish dollars. My money will be better spent on the 18-35.

Bokehand contrast are more important to me than sharpness. But either lens is plenty sharp.

The price of the 31 is silly. Still I'd be sad to sell mine.

But it is a FF optic, unlike the 18-35 ... Could be useful one day. Then again, there is also the FF Sigma 35 f1.4.

Sigma really is piling on the pressure on Pentax (and every other lens maker) nowadays with these modern lenses.

The 18-35 was tested on a Canon sensor, which Lenstip says gives higher MTF numbers because the pixels are more densely packed. Not to mention, the Canon sensor is just a bit smaller, so that might make the corners just a little bit better than the Nikon/Pentax/Sony sized APS-C sensor.
So you can't just make a direct numeric comparison with the FA 31 unless it's on the same type sensor.

The best comparison would be on the same sensor without adapters. Of course that is not possible (yet for the not-yet-in-people's-hands k-mount 18-35).
The second best comparison is on two sensors with the same MP and no AA filter on either. I doubt that's what was tested.
