Adobe ACR 4.4 K20D

Just trying ACR 4.4 for the K20D. It is so accurate. AB'd the two Internal @ ACR and the ACR is not as Flashy. Colours seem more natural.

Glad that it is out, to say the least.

Ben

It looks, to my untrained eye, that I'm getting better colors from ACR "out of the box" with the K20D than I did from the K100D and DL, where the reds could be a bit orange-y unless you tweak the camera calibration. I'm pretty happy so far. (Love the camera!)

Hopefully Adobe will quickly fix the errors they introduced with Lightroom 1.4, so I can get back to using it.

For those of us 'Lesser-Pentaxians' sporting K10D's or K100's, anyone know if the ACR upgrade improves the output for us? In-other-words, is it worth upgrading at all?

I don't think that ACR changes older cameras. In Lightroom, my K20D photos use calibration "ACR 4.4", my K100D photos use an older version of ACR (3.something?), and my DL photos use yet another older one. So there's probably no calibration difference for older cameras.

I don't think ACR offers any functionality over 4.3, either. Though it did introduce some bugs...

You've probably heard it already, Adobe has withdrawn the 1.4 update.

The problems with ACR 4.4 are dependent on what OS you use and what features you use. Lightroom 1.4 reads data incorrectly from files that have been run through the AND converter. The data is actually fine, just gets read wrong. Except on Windows, where the DNG converter is actually broken.

You can use it, but I don't think the configuration changes at all.

With Lightroom 1.4, my K20D photos use ACR 4.4 calibration, my K100D photos use ACR 3.6, and my DL photos use ACR 3.3. In other words, that's when the camera was last calibrated by Adobe. So whether you have ACR 4.4, 4.3, or 3.6 (or anything in-between), you'll have exactly the same camera calibration. (Which I've ended up tweaking slightly to get the reds I want from it, which so far, hasn't been an issue with the K20D shots - I'm blaming ACR, not the K100D, for this, as I consistently got great colors with the K100D from the bundled software.)

Someone's who's more of an Adobe expert than I can correct me, but I'm fairly sure that I'm right.

when you will install ACR v4.4 your .PEF files from *istDL can use either "3.3"profile or "4.4"profile... I just tested a minute ago w/ my own old *istDL.

I shot around 100 images in PEF over the weekend after installing the new update.

All the jpegs created with ACR 4.4 have a time stamp in the exif of 00:00.

Other than that it seems fine to use.
