Somebody on a similar post a few weeks ago speculated the earliest release would be this June. Others were thinking end of the year. Fortunately for myself I've spent too much on lens in the last few months and have to wait anyway to get a non-fisheye wide angle. I'm very interested to see how this lens compares to the Sigma 10-20mm and the Pentax 12-24mm.

Me too, I am interested in whether the Tamron version is better (sharpness, cost and weight wise) than the Sigma and Pentax version (both of them are rated very high).

I am hoping that the Tammy is a winner. I had the 10-17FE, although it was fun, I didnt find it that usefull. The 12-24 is a winner but a bit pricey for me, I am hoping that the Tammy will be a true performer at a cheaper price point. It will pair up nicely with the 24-75mm and be rounded off with the 70-200mm later this year as well.

given how glacially slow Tamron is (the 70-200/2.8 was supposed to be released in Nov and the new ETA is "by summer"), I wouldn't hold my breath.
My bet is end of year...

B+H has it for 499, but only for nikon so far. but ad does say it's made for pentax, unlike tokina which makes you pay 200 extra for the pentax label. grrrrrrrrrr

For that price you can get the Pentax 12-24 on eBay from Prodigital2000....

Aye, that interests me a lot more, why haven't pentax even announced this lens yet?

Because Pentax has many other lenses in the pipeline that needs to be released before they can release the 11-16. The current roadmap is to spring 2009. In the next roadmap, that covers spring 2009 - fall 2009, the 11-16 f/2.8 may be announced.
