This almost certainly will be an f4 lens. Definitely a response to Canon's (and Nikon's) top f4 glass, like the Canon 24-105 and the Nikkor 24-125. As a DA* lens, this could easily run over $1,000, so it won't be replacing the 17-70. Fills a huge gap for those looking for a high-end weather sealed standard zoom for landscapes.

Actually, it's probably more like 22 to
38. It will be the first "limited" zoom and as such could be quite as intriguing in its own right as is the larger but ultra fast Sigma 18-35. It will be slower, but much smaller, with possibly the IQ of the limited primes. Pentax seems to be offering this to fill the DA prime gap between 21 and 35 instead of an actual prime. Will lovers of primes accept this short range zoom?
