Pentax deals are getting serious - harbinger of new releases in Sept?

Well, I just saw a deal (already sold out) for a K-30 + 18-55 for $337 BNIB shipped. There is currently a deal for a K-5II, yes a II, with 18-135 for $987. There have been a couple other deals like the Q10 for $179 (body only) and all over the past week.

So, are these killer deals harbingers of new releases or the results of existing releases? For the K-5II it seems a great price on a new model with a serious lens ($400ish on its own). Does this mean that Pentax is clearing out old inventory in order to make room for the newer models we've all been anticipating?

Wow, regarding the K-30, was that the 18-55WR?
I just paid 100 more for that less than a month ago, and even that was a killer deal. Basically, you are getting a K-30 for $220 because you can sell the 18-55WR for $120 all day long.

Anyway, the K-5II deal does smell like a new camera is brewing.

No, it was the DAL as far as I can tell (it sold out in <1 hour from posting).

Try <5 minutes, and there was apparently only 1 in stock because I tried to order it as soon as it hit SD. This was a clearance deal, and it looked like the store does not carry any Pentax gear, so I think this was a one off deal on an imported camera. If it is legit, one person got a great deal!

With the K5-ii kit on Overstock, I have to wonder if that was a price mistake because the same camera with the 18-55 kit was over $1000. If they were trying to empty current stock to prepare for new models, I would think the other kits would be reduced as well, but who knows.
Also, no one has posted that they have received the kit yet, so we don't know for sure if it is the K5-ii with 18-135 or a ceiling fan...lol.
I pulled the trigger on it this morning, so crossing my fingers!

Depends whether this is a pre-boxed kit or a pseudo-kit (i.e., Buy both and get the discount). If it is a pre-boxed kit there could be a significant stock of that particular combination in warehouses - especially since it is the straight K5 with the AA filter, not the K5II-s.

Until someone has the package in hand we can only go by the Pentax Part # posted - and its for the K-5II + 18-135 kit:

So this is probably a pre-boxed deal kit. Boy, that MZ-S and split-prism KX I bought last week are looking awfully expensive right now

Well, a 1 post new member that claims they got only the camera body. Problem is the site has a pic of a II + 18-135, names both, and has the right Pentax Part #. I am withholding judgement until we hear from an established member on this one.

Then we'll find out that it was actually a toaster oven.

I suspect it has more to do with how well (or not well) the K-5ii is selling. There doesn't seem to be deals like this on the K-5iis. This suggests that the K-5iis is doing considerably better than the K-5ii.

The reports have been consistent with that analysis. Pentax was apparently surprised that the IIs was selling as well as it is (or better than the II). I certainly did not want the II but did but the IIs to replace my original K-5 for the same reasons I read all over the net.
