As long as Ricoh's not announcing that they have sold the Pentax brand to Burger King, I should be fine and happy!

Well, the cat is out of the bag!

Wait a minute, there were no cats in the bag!

I have to stop reading all the rumors in this forum, it leads to unrealistic and high expectations.

I need to get out and use the equipment I have!

After reading this I feel a lot better: Pentax K5 IIs vs Canon 5DMKII | Gracen

Happy shooting!

Ok Poit, now we have it confirmed: during Melbourne Photo Expo in 2 weeks from now, we shall see a bleak, boring Pentax booth, same as damn three years ago, even with same cameras! I have also heard new Limiteds are coming to Oz in a month, so they won't be there either. Flashes too.
All this confirms how Ricoh is "handling the Pentax just the right way." Just as that sales rep said

But I'll explore Fuji's and Oly's booths thoroughly, and photo book publishing. Nikon and Canon don't interest me. Hopefully there'll be some film enthusiasts!

Are they going to show the K-r and the K-5? No Optio WG, no Q, no GR, none of the DSLRs made since then?

The Sony Xperia Z1 looks really interesting.

I'm using an iPhone at the moment, but Apple just annoys me in general (the obligatory iTunes software is a major turn off).

If the compact digital camera market needed another nail in the coffin then the Sony QX Smart Lens concept would be it.

I hope Sony has the success with these products it deserves.

P.S.: This post could be considered "off-topic" if all the Ricoh IFA excitement had been followed up with something of interest to photographers. Still some time left until Christmas, but I guess we need a new thread anyhow.

Already by far the biggest criticism of these Sony smartphone add-ons is that they are NOT compact, especially not the 100.

I like the idea in general. Kind of makes one wonder why the GXR series didn't act as a module for a smartphone.

People will have a strange experience of deja vu in Pentax booth.
GRs are still scarce in Oz, they come in small irregular batches. Maybe there'll be a preview model.
K50 in colours looks like Kr very much, K5II is a small rehash of K5, nothing new there, and 645D is all the same. Let's hope they'll have a new macro lens to try.
Qs are new. But they are not sellers in Oz; this isn't a territory for such cameras and Q7 won't be here anyway. Maybe Q10, but CR Kennedy is aware of what goes and what doesn't.

The MX-1, though, is perhaps the nicest thing they can show and such cameras are popular. For those who visited last expo and tried all Pentax gear, this time they can skip Pentax booth and lose nothing.

If you choose "compact", you get the respective quality (or rather lack thereof).

Small lenses and sensors cannot produce the noise free and shallow DOF aesthetics normally associated with DSLRs.

The beauty of the QX Smart Lens concept is not that it is the tiniest possible, but that it can give you "real camera" performance with small parts that can be combined or used separately. Disassembled, the system is very pocketable. Not the tiniest possible, but probably the most pocketable for a given IQ.

Biased much? The K-50 and K-r are worlds apart. The K-50 has an upgraded sensor, improved AF and tracking, dual wheels, individual AF Adjust, 100% coverage pentaprism OVF, focus peaking, improved CDAF. These bodies have nothing in common but K-mount and the Pentax name.

The K-5 II is not a dramatic difference for everyone, but it's highly significant to me. I will not recommend or purchase a K-5, but I would readily recommend a K-5 II. I would be happy to own one, except I am waiting for the new flagship APS-C body.
