New rumor: Pentax "A" mount

I saw this very interesting article on PentaxOne - Accueil, a big Pentax forum in France, written by fellow member Mistral75: PentaxOne - Rumeurs 2013

Google translation:

QuoteQuote:
Well, Sony has announced a new (pseudo-) reflex Sony A3000, E-mount and A-mount ...

Frame A is the classic frame (formerly Minolta) SLR.
The E-mount is the mount of the NEX (new frame with a shorter draw allowing finer devices).

The A3000 is the first (pseudo-) Sony E-mount cameras Equipped with an EVF, no mirror, even more compact than the A77 A99 and other A, it may be the first step towards the final abandonment of the frame A ...

Curious to see if such a scenario could occur in Pentoh (would obviously have a new frame first, the mount Q the circle would not see his image too low): gratgrat:

Beginning of the year until March-April, I heard a lot about it from my contacts in the development of a new mount, the mount Pentax A.

A like Ace, above the King and Queen.

It was a 24x36 frame with large diameter (eg to help stabilize the sensor) and short-run, fully electronic, with an adapter with a motorized iris control for backward compatibility with the objectives mount K (with the difference management, in terms of correspondence between movement of the lever and drives the opening between Pentax-M and a back-side and A Pentax and post of the other housing by the declaration of the type lens used for those without a chip).

The development teams working on all Pentax system, a distant descendant of the Pentax LX and Leica Visoflex and cousin of GXR with:

1 / A unit "base" in frame A, with an electronic viewfinder "roof" integrated but removable (see Pentax LX), itself with a claw flash.

2 / A-mount targets the highest standards of the moment:

- Electric iris control
- Engine (s) linear stepper (s) for accurate focus, fast AF contrast detection (1-4 engines depending on the amount of glass and move the market positioning of the lens) and gentle Video
- "Focus by wire" (the focus ring controls the motor or motors without mechanical coupling)

3 / Two coupling rings, purchasable separately for mounting targets K-mount on the base unit:

- Comprising a first drive motor of the aperture setting cam targets K and relaying the contacts SDM
- The second, more costly, adding a control motor autofocus
- The first is therefore intended for motorized lenses and those with manual focus, the second to all targets frame K.

The big news and what was the uniqueness of this new system is the "Pentaflex" module, also purchased separately. Modern interpretation of Leica Visoflex the same time that his name refers to Asahiflex (see the first 60 years of Asahiflex in 2012), it has a mirror box, a mirror, an optical viewfinder, a flash shoe, a module AF phase detection, motor control autofocus targets K-mount and motor control cam adjustment of their diaphragm.

The module includes a bayonet Pentaflex K. It is mounted on the base unit which was previously removed the electronic viewfinder and snaps / lock in front of the bayonet A and above the rail mounting electronic viewfinder.

In other words, it lets you go a mirrorless A-mount DSLR in a traditional frame K.

That was the "system A" complete. Then we can imagine that the marketing could create a segmented line with the base unit with a 24x36 sensor and other sensor APS-C base units with non removable electronic viewfinder (therefore incompatible with the Pentaflex but can always use objectives K-mount with either coupling ring), even in entry-level base units without sight for those who prefer to "shoot with the elbows."

Then it got complicated with Pentax. Pentax Ricoh had merged teams and teams in Ricoh Photo Pentax Ricoh Imaging. Many employees "Ricoh channel history" came under the orders of employees "Pentax historic canal", they do not appreciate at all considering the fact that it was Ricoh bought Pentax and not the reverse. I also suspect the "Pentax history channel" have been a little imperialist and / or condescending vis--vis the "Ricoh channel history." So, they have balked and tended to use the relay they had in the house Ricoh to block decisions within Pentax Ricoh Imaging by "Pentax historic canal."

Thus, the GR is released under Ricoh brand then it was decided initially that all come out in brand new Pentax. Similarly, the presentation of the K-50 and K-500, which should have taken place in April was postponed so as to leave the field open to communication about the Ricoh GR.

Third illustration of backlash, very recent one: the name change became Ricoh Pentax Ricoh Imaging Imaging and Rocks websites.

Since radio silence around the frame A and its ecosystem, which makes me fear that the project was passed by the wayside.

But you never know ... Perhaps do you see out under the Ricoh brand since it is this that should baptize innovative systems (see Ricoh's recent communication on the division of the world between the two marks picture).

Fantasic news! An LX-D! Lets hope this is real!

Oh no, now this thread will be full of people being scared of the K-mount disappearing. People that think Pentax can't support another mount system. And just people in general that think Pentax is doomed.

Wel I for one think Pentax is making an excellent move.

this thread needs an appropriate image

Pentax LX AD | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

But sounds good. I do think Pentax and Ricoh both have the heritage foundation for a next generation of a "photographic instrument", along the lines of the LX and the GXR - systems. Would love that.

While time will tell if the above is true but it does explain the previous comment from Pentax earlier this year that it will "apparently be different from other full-frame DSLR cameras".
Perhaps, one reason why Tokina was brought into the picture when working on Pentax full-frame: their abiilty to create Canon and Nikon mount lenses to be used with full or partial capabilities on this "Ace" mount with electronic adapters?!?! That will certainly bring Pentax to a level where it has the largest amount of lenses available.

This rumour goes beyond that, and try to make us believe that Ricoh is working on a mirrorless EVF camera that with an adapter can be made into to a K-mount DSLR.

Oooohh! That was a camera!

I had 2 LXs, plus a motordrive, bellows unit, various lenses, etc. Then in about 1991 my house was broken into and all my cameras and lenses were stolen!

I think sometimes companies try to move the "Overton Window". (Just as politicians do).

Rumours are made so extreme that they cause an adverse reaction. Then the launch is greeted with relief, in spite of the fact that before the rumour it would not have been acceptable.

But - I'll analyse that rumour with interest, trying not to be too judgmental to start with. Some people here think some of my thoughts are a bit OTT, but compared with that they are run-of-the-mill!

Actually, this rumor sounds very realistic. It would explain perfectly why there has been little to no K-mount lens developent whatsoever for the past two years now. They knew something was about to change.

Maybe Mistral - if he's watching this section - could tell us what is reliable information, what is potentially reliable information and what is speculation. Is that source an insider? Are we talking about an idea discussed internally, or something evolving towards production?
(Mistral: thanks in advance)

It would require a daytime job to just browse through the Patents. But if you have enough time: FPO IP Research & Communities
