"That information really has not been released. I suspect that any SDM lenses will be watersealed though, because of the electronics inside them."

Maybe there's still hope?

I'd suggest not to hope anything, just not to be deceived later. I really would be surprised but of course I'd be very happy about that if true.

Be nice if pentax became the "weather sealing for the masses" maker.

Bummer!

I was one of those potential buyers, but I guess I waited in vain... Why am I even staying with Pentax really? They won't deliver me a substitute for the ist D and now this.

I guess you could always use it manually but with this short a throwing distance (how do you call that?) that will be a hit and miss...

Och well, I guess I can always spend my money on Sigma's 17-70. Seems to be very good as well.
On the roadmap is a TC to give sonic ability. So it might make the lens bigger, but it should make it possible for you to use it on a regular K100 DSLR

I don't think it will have the sealing like the DA* lenses. Canon had a bunch of USM lenses, which were not sealed, as I understand it.

I expect some dust sealing, but not fully gasketed

*ist D is what I have , but I really don't see how a TC is going to make this lens have a screwdrive type AF...

I don’t know, but I was thinking that this Rear Converter for SDM, would function in a way to translate the screwdrive AF into an SDM signal for the lens.

I’ve been considering the *Ist D camera several times, it really is a great package.

Now I see where you come from...

IMHO the SDM converter which translates screwdrive AF into SDM or vice versa will never come. It would sure make the converter too expensive for only a marginal use...

Besides, if it is a 1.4x converter, it would make the 17-70 far less interesting, as it would become a 24-100...

Considering I drive a subaru, this is probably the best description and a very good compliment for Pentax.

Now more 17-70 F4 info lol.

Well, the link in the first post takes me to page 2 of a forum with no photos or anything else. Moving to page 1 shows no photos either. Does anyone have the photo saved and could post it in here?
