Sample shots, you have to scroll down a bit to find the flickr links:

Those Flickr shots taken with the HD DA21 show a definite lack of pixie dust compared to my old plain DA21

IF that is done under exactly the same circumstances (read exact same focus point), then I would say the improvement is significant.
Of course it is; after all the HD coating is playing - quality wise - on the nano-coatings league.

Severe purple fringing appears in several shots taken by the new hd da 15

I see from your sig that you use a K-7? The sensor being the K-5 sensor plays a role here too imho.

I agree that the shots with the 21 seem extremely pedestrian though.

All the DA 70 shots look very very good.

Here is a Google translated review of the HD 15mm from DC Watch in Japan. I haven't had time to read it fully, but it seems like the detail in low-light is improved and there is some weakening of the starburst effect, so that some may still prefer the older one. No side-by-side comparisons in this review, but a few sample images.

What if these lenses are optimized for the new camera?

This is very reddish / magenta-ish but one should note that the firmware of the K-5 IIs used to take these pictures is v.1.04 and not 1.05/1.06.

A strange collection of shots, all except one taken at f11 or thereabouts, with a mix of in-camera CA/distortion correction turned on and off. Hard to tell until someone who knows what they are doing takes and posts some decent photos. No pixie dust here ...

If there is a difference, I will doubt that there's that much of a difference to be a make or break for your photographic careers.

I have to disagree, some of those HD21 shots are sharper than anything I normally see come strait out of a SMC21. Just look at the 21ltd image gallery here and these look better. Yes the composition and exposure of the shots is boring as bat poo, but i've never been that impressed in non PP 21 images except for the beautiful colours.
Bring on some direct comparisons and we might be able to judge.

I think he went -1 exposure comp on the first sunset shot and forgot to ever turn it off!
