I have to disagree, some of those HD21 shots are sharper than anything I normally see come strait out of a SMC21. Just look at the 21ltd image gallery here and these look better. Yes the composition and exposure of the shots is boring as bat poo, but i've never been that impressed in non PP 21 images except for the beautiful colours.
Bring on some direct comparisons and we might be able to judge.
Hard to tell - at 1024 x 678 anything looks sharp, even my DA21 shots

I think he went -1 exposure comp on the first sunset shot and forgot to ever turn it off!
This is why pentax should copy quick exposure compensation from Nikon

These lenses demand a better test. I can't wait until one of us gets a copy.

You show the 21s abilities off superbly, that lens really does spectacular colour rendition.

I wouldn't use anything posted here as a baseline. The crappy compression algorithm used on the CMS software used by this site ensures that nothing looks as sharp as it would on Flickr.
Nice to know, one of my issues is that use my 43ltd as a sharpness yardstick, which is quite unfair on other lenses!

Since K-x I find that AWB have shifted towards magenta, very much like the photos posted. I won't put it against the lens. I'll wait until someone capable has it.

Most of these examples have been in crap light, any photographer worth a little salt should notice that. The ppg ones are a little over pp for me, and def too processed to understand a lens characteristic. Good images there though.

I just started a thread in the SLR lenses section with a some comparison pictures. It's still not very good but shows that HD reduces aberrations compared to SMC.

The K-5 has a tendency to magenta in its AWB setting. I usually use AWB but I almost always have to adjust magenta down. Combined with cold color temperature, this often gives K-5 pictures a purplish look which I immediately noticed when the first pictures from the K-5 started to show up.

Those look gorgeous lenses! (So do the black versions). I'm sure they work superbly too.

But I keep asking myself: "when would I put one of those on my camera instead of one of my existing lenses?" And I simply can't identify the circumstances! I think I must do different sorts of photography from those who use such lenses.

Imo the key to enjoying a DA Lim is to shoot with no strap. It feels different when the camera can be operated with one hand and you can move it anywhere without restrictions.
