and will silently fix some bugs as well.

From Ricoh's release announcement dated 2013/09/12 the changes are the following:
  • Correspond to the AF assist light function by white LED light for auto flash unit AF360FGZII and AF540FGZII.
  • Optimized contrast AF when using HD PENTAX-DA Limited series lenses.
  • Improved stability for general performance.

See http://www.ricoh-imaging.fr/media/a6c70daff17402442ac5f71117edf337/Firmware_K-500_V1.01.docx (from the French website albeit in English).

The bodies and new versions are as follows:
  • 645D (1.31)
  • K-50 (1.01)
  • K-500 (1.01)
  • K-5IIs (1.05)
  • K-5II (1.05)
  • K-5 (1.15)
  • K-30 (1.05)
  • K-01 (1.04)
  • K-r (1.14)

Anyone find a similar document for the K-01? Or does this document apply to all despite having K-500 in the title?

Firmware update

Thanks for the heads up and links everyone! Updated my K-5 and K-30 with the only hitch being I had to actually format the SD card to get the update to go, starting with the K-30. Have the file but haven't updated my DynoSore (*ist DL) yet. In the past I just put the .bin file in the root directory of the DS card and it would update. After the update, I'd just delete the firmware file. Just in case someone may not have thought of this: I use Word Pad and put all my contact information in a large font on screen and take a picture of the screen. Then save the Word Pad file as as OwnerInfo.txt, then rename the JPG to OwnerInfo.jpg. I keep both files handy in my Pentax folder/sub-directory and always put a copy of them in the root directory of the SD card. If an honest person finds a lost camera and would actually try to return it to its' owner, the information is there and can be easily accessed by either a Windows or Mac machine (or even a lost SD card).
Cheers,
Tim

This seems to be the general code for "fixed bugs that we don't want to admit exist". I kind of hoped that under new management they'd be more open, but oh well. At least they do fix things.

Or the bugs are too small, too many to be mentioned. What would you think about:
  • Correspond to the AF assist light function by white LED light for auto flash unit AF360FGZII and AF540FGZII.
  • Optimized contrast AF when using HD PENTAX-DA Limited series lenses.
  • Fixed a possible buffer overflow in AAAA menu module
  • Fixed possible use of uninitialized value in XXXXX
  • Improve performance of YYYY algorithm by caching intermediate results
  • Fixed compiler warning in SSSS source file
  • Revert change CCCC because of stability issues
  • Fixed race condition between E1 and E2
    ....
It would not add any useful information, just cluttering the release notes. Thus, "Improved stability for general performance".

Kunzite, I'm with Mattdm on this one.
Pentax always behaved that way. I like Pentax but when they do idiocy we should recognize it.

As a software engineer, I'm saying the word "idiocy" is a baseless, hasted conclusion. That's no "idiocy", that's no hiding bugs, they just decided to group minor fixes with no visibility to the general user under "improved stability blas blas". There's no bug hiding conspiracy here.
Of course, I would like to get a full report... including the source code, to review it and give them my feedback

+1. Writing out the details of all small bugs fixed only creates a looooong release note with lots of what looks as gibberish to the average customer. I'm always open about bugs in the software I write, but in almost every release note there will be one item saying something like "several minor errors fixed".

I was excited to read about the free update for all Pentax cameras; placed my ME Super next to computer screen and wished it updates itself with a full frame sensor, but my wish wasn't granted.
Did I do something wrong?

No, it's that you already have the latest version: your ME Super is indeed enjoying a full frame sensor .
