Congrats, Pentax...

I've bought four, but turned LOTS of people on to the marque...

The K5 is the best one yet!

Cheers,
Cameron

A lot. I still have 5, plus the Q's that are expendable.

How long will it take them to sell their next 10 million? Probably will take them a lot longer than 30 years.
Pentax sold 10 million SLRs by 1981. I think this latest milestone is 20 million cameras made at this particular plant, which may include other types. I'm not sure how long Pentax cameras have been made there.

I have 3 now, but I'm looking to add to my collection: MX, P30t and a K-5II.

Does anybody know when they started the Cebu factory?

Maybe not. I am just speculating but I would not be suprised if turnover for digital cameras was much higher than for film. Just reading this thread it's notable how many still use film cameras purchased long ago.

Congrats to Pentax. I've had and still have the following bodies:

1) Pentax S1a- bought new 1968
2) Pentax ES 11- bought new 1975
3) Pentax K1000- wife bought 1981
4) Pentax K10D- bought new 2007
5) Pentax K-m bought new 2009
6) Pentax K-5 bought new 2011

I've bought many Takumar and Pentax lenses...all new since '68...also two Pentax (one a Honeywell) flashes.

My question though...not to put a dent in all this 20 million Pentax bodies made...is how many have been made since the digital age ?

Has there been a significant downward trend in Pentax bodies manufactured since the film era ended ?

I suspect there was a significant downtrend in Pentax bodies when the AF SLR era began, and also at the beginning of the digital era. I would expect in recent years there has been an upward trend thanks to the high turnover rate of digital bodies. However, I suspect that trend will go down over time. The boom phase in SLR (and cameras in general) sales is definitely coming to end. The push toward increasing levels of resolution will turn SLRs (and most ILCs) into high-end products which wil be used mostly by professionals and "art" photographers. Most everyone else will be using compacts, cell phone, google glasses, or whatever other products high-end tech will produce for the low end market.

10.000,000 slrs sold from the heydays when Pentax was #1 in the 1960's thru 1981 is a milestone.
Just an additional 10,000,000 slr & dslrs sold since 1981, some 32 years later is eye opening.

My first AF SLR I bought new was Pentax way back in 2002, just a year after Pentax full frame Dslr was officially announced in February 2001 & times were very good. Then the years blew by & nothing...

I guess most Pentaxians have gotten tired of waiting & bought into Canikon full frame dslrs instead.

I repeat, the milestone in question appears to be 20 million cameras produced by the Cebu plant in the Philippines. I am unable to find out when the Cebu plant opened, but in 1981 Pentax cameras were probably still being made in Japan.
