20 millionth Pentax camera celebrations

I had to do some googling but...recently the Pentax Cebu plant in the Philippines celebrated the manufacture of their 20 millionth Pentax DSLR camera.

They held a photo contest about it:
QuoteQuote:
Do you know that every Pentax DSLR is manufactured in Cebu in the Pentax factory? That's right, every Pentax DSLR shipped to the entire world comes from our Queen City of the South. In commemoration of the 20 millionth camera manufactured, a special photo contest will be held on September 14, 2013 at the Pacific Cebu Resort. We welcome you to attend if you live in Cebu or happen to be there during this time.
and are also offering local Pentaxians a chance to attend a fashion shoot with a 645D using professional.

All the info from Pentax Philippines Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/pentaxph

20m is a newsworthy milestone I think.

I think it must be 20 million SLR cameras. They reached 10million in 1981....

You are right. Somewhere in their announcements they mention analogue and digital SLRs. They also assemble the 645D and now the Q in Cebu, so maybe they are also included.

And I have a nice round 12 of them over 40 years - I still have 11 the exception is a film point and shoot that had a wonky view finder.

I've only had 10: S3, SV, SP-F, ES, ESII, K2DMD, *istD, K20D, K-5 and Q, but only 6 remain. I wish I'd hung onto the ESII, most of all the M42s.

I've only owned five Pentaxes... all from the digital age: A K200D, K-5, K-01, K-30 and original Q. I still own all but the K200D, which is now my niece's (so it's still in the family). I've been seriously involved in photography since the mid 1970s so you'd think I would have been a K1000 owner. But during that era, I was a Minolta person - starting off with the 100 percent manual SRT-200.

RobA Oz I love my ES - what a fabulous camera. Was the ESII even better? Hard to imagine. I kept my M42 kit as it has so many good memories.

The question is, what was the model of the 20 millionth camera?

A self-timer and viewfinder blinds were the main differences, as far as I recall. The viewfinder blinds were set off the speed dial, and were very handy for long exposures or adverse back lighting on a tripod (the ES came with a viewfinder cap). There were probably some others, too, but it was a long time ago.

I have actually been considering going to the Philippines for my next trip and Cebu is supposed to have excellent scuba diving. Interesting that there seems to be some interaction going on between the factory and local photographers.
