I prefer the red one as well - it works better with black and silver colours than green

Precisely; and having seen it on the D FA645 90mm and the HD DA 560mm, it's actually a nice shade of red - dark, metallic.

Why do we speak about a 18-70 here? I thought it was going to be a 16-85 f2.8 as DA* label was suggesting first but then a DA 16-85 f3.5 or f2.8-4 sounds more realistic after roadmap changes
I do not really see what a 18-70 would bring on top of existing and nicely reviewed DA 17-70 ...

I would like to see it wider at the short end, to 16 mm, then it would be a nice replacement to the now discontinued 16-45

It's what it would *not* bring that would make it attractive
to those of us who are wary of the early-design in-lens motors.

"I do not really see what a 18-70 would bring on top of existing and nicely reviewed DA 17-70" ...

From PentaxForums.com: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/237677-da-18-70-f-2-8-...#ixzz2ful6ICT8

I don't know about "nicely reviewed"... here's the recommendation from our own review and comparison of the 18-70..

"Because of the Pentax lens’s hunting problems, we feel the Sigma lenses are a better choice. It must be stressed that we have tested only one sample of the Pentax lens, and it is possible that we have been given an imperfect lens. Nonetheless, we feel the Sigmas' more varied perks still make them better “walk-around” lenses, capable of facing a larger range of shooting situations."

I really want to buy a Pentax lens but when our own list recommends another brand I need to stop and think about it.

as far as this lens is concerned (16/18 to 70/80 range), it most probably won't be a constant 2.8, or maybe not even WR for that matter... (because the 18-135 is already there for that purpose)

I really hope it starts at 16mm, those 2mm mean a lot to me

To me, too. But no, it won't start at 16mm...

In your wildest dreams. It was never going to be 16-85 f2.8. That lens would be too large and expensive to ever exist.

It is disappointing that it is downgraded to DA though, whatever it turns out to be.

I think they just dropped the * naming and replacing it with HD. Remember the 560mm was also a DA non-star lens on the roadmap. I'm sure it would have been labeled DA* if it had been released, say, five years ago...

That could be a DA HD indeed, maybe unveiled as kit lens at the same time as this upcoming K3 ...

I sure hope that the just leaked 55-300mm lens isn't a replacement for the hoped for 25-70mm (or whatever the roadmap is hinting at), lens. The revised 50-300mm lens has a place but it isn't a new walk around higher quality zoom.

I would think it will cost around 800.
