@catastrophe @ElJamoquio @Smeggypants

May I be curious, what do you guys want/need even more DR for?

Are 24x36mm sensors still that much better regarding DR?

Low Iso, no. High Iso, yes.

So I can take pictures in lower light with faster shutter speeds and smaller apertures.

Forget FF! I want 16-bit color depth!

That'll turn heads.

I regularly run into shots where there are blown highlights AND dark sections with only noise. So you have to choose which ones you want. Wider DR would be nice.

All these improvements are going to be marginal. Slight improvements around the edges, where most shots and shooters would not see much difference. A friend told me of his film days how much money and effort was expended just for a stop of light.

Well that wasn't the case when the K-5 appeared. it had a nearly 3 stop improvement over k-7 and k-20D. I do suspect we won't get the same huge improvement for a while though.

I exchanged my K5 with a 5D mark II for a week : while I prefered the colors of the K5, luminance dynamic range was way superior. Also, bigger goddamn viewfinder! And, 24mm as ultra-wide rocks. period. That alone would justify the investment.

I didn't say I wanted more DR, but I do. In a basic sense, FF doesn't give an advantage with DR.

Maybe..... just maybe.... PENTAX DSLR can now submerge in water up to 15m.

Make loyal pentaxian happy? I think I will be happy if...

Full-frame announcement!

Less happy but OK:
K-3
- amazing AF speed;
- full video control, 1080 60p;
- amazing iso performance, max iso is more than 1k;
- AA filter-less is now a standard (any artifacts can be correct in camera);
- Build in WIFI and GPS;
- Highly customizable menu/buttons like GR;
- Good focus peaking.

Actually, that might be a breakthrough...it focuses on precisely what you're looking at, a specific point in the viewfinder, without having to press halfway on the shutter button!

Actually, considering many smartphones and tables have the capability of determining where you are looking (what line you are reading, so it scrolls for you; or darkens the screen when you look away from it) - this might be possible. You would still need to hold the camera close to your face. And make sure it doesnt pick up someone else's eyes
