He's right. A 62mm B+W 0.9 (3-stop) MRC-coated ND filter costs some US$112.95.

So how certain is anyone that this is a real image (of the supposed K-3)?

Awww, I hope this is not true. 20MP is boring. My RX100 is 20MP. 20MP works well enough on a quality point-and-shoot, but 24MP is what's needed (esp as competitor Nikon now has three 24MP APS-C models ...).
Hmm, 16MP is big enough, 36 is too much, 24 is just right, and 20 not cutting it? I wonder where our number preferences come from... Personally I consider beyond 16mp for digital 135 good enough, though probably not more than 40.

Not at all. Something is coming, there are lots of indications from lots of sources. But what is not clear.

I'm thinking we will see more than one.

I don't think there is any reason to go less than 24MP. The Toshiba 24MP is a year old and out performs the 16MP Sony that is in the K-5II.

24MP with no AA filter and improved image processing and I think Pentax has a winner. If Sony takes the same sensor tech used in the Olympus OM-D or EM-1 we end up with 26MP in APS-C.

Yeah, if there is no IQ penalty relative to the older K-5 sensor, esp re high-ISO, they may as well just do 24MP. Means bigger files, sure, but extra croppability is a nice enough feature alone to balance out any file size penalty. And if they can do 24MP and maintain 7fps and a 20+ shot RAW buffer too, even better. Is that asking too much

Ah, I guess that your phone you're using today is that Nokia Lumia with 41 mega pixel camera... Your 16mega pixel K-5 must be so boring to use... XD

Yes, 16MP is so 2010. I can't understand how anyone could live with technology that old.

Ah, the Nikon D4 must be so boring for you to use, because, well, it's only 16mp...
Okay, you want the latest and must be a super duper high mega pixels, you shoot with it, then what? Post it on the internet? Make prints like only up to 8x12s? XD

Even if the curve of the S/N ratio of the new 24MP sensors are identical to that of the older 16MP sensor you will have noticeably better IQ. As the "pixels" get smaller so does the "grain" of the noise.

I crop like crazy in post, to fix my inability to compose well

... All just jesting. I actually like the K-5's old and tiny 16MP sensor quite a lot.

I think your sarcasm meter needs re-recalibrating.

I wouldn't say that...
But then, they probably won't use old sensors.

B+W ND always seem to give my pics a brown cast. I like the marumi ones a lot better.

The grain is smaller but the amplitude of the noise goes up proportionately. So there is really no net gain in a test lab scenario, and very minor gain in printed photographs.
