Perhaps the upper bulge is (at least partly) for an LED video light?

I was thinking the same! It could be a focus assist light too at the same time, and it could help as a preview for how the flash is going to look like. Make the whole thing rotateable (upwards) and... wow. It could be a flash that is actually usable. Now the problem is of course that this is Pentax we are talking about. Video features? Yeah right...

I like the look of it. The big prism house reminds me of the 67, likely the sexiest camera ever

Then again, maybe it's just a frame reinforcement so that the K-5 can be spun around on a string to mimic the Theta.

Interesting, and I don't mind the looks. Then again, looks aren't even a secondary consideration for me.

Well, we now have a K-3 area here:
Pentax K-3 - PentaxForums.com

So it must be real and due soon...

But then again, we also have a FF area on this forum too, so I don't know what's real and what's not anymore

It's too late now but Adam should have put the new "K-3 forum section" as a sub-forum under the "Pentax Full Frame". section.....
........ that would have done everyone's head in.

Lol, well played!

Looking like we'll have a couple interesting weeks ahead of us - I sure hope the extra prism space translates to an improved viewfinder.

I'm a little late to the party here. I think the hump is a cloaking device for birding, eliminating the need for designing a new 250-600 mm 20 pound zoom. Seriously, I'm sure it has a good reason for being there and Pentax chose to situate it to boost ergonomics as well. I'm glad they didn't enlarge the entire camera just to even everything out...don't want an oversized Canikon clone of a camera. Prism housing is definitely larger, in keeping with the theory (I'm a believer) that the same body will be used for FF camera likely released next year.

The bump definitely looks like something that will pop-out. We do not need another flash....so what could it be? Video lighting? A laser distance meter for new very accurate AF? Or a battery compartment for GPS?

I could be blind but I'm not seeing anything regarding the hump that leads me to believe that there is anything move able about it or a cover for a port or what not there. I tend to believe this is a motor drive or antenna of soke kind.

Looking at the supposed specs I was trying to confirm the Stereo Phone-out Monitor Jack. I can't recall anyone describing it in the current 1,000 plus posts in all the current K3 threads.

So I put the words/phrase into Google and only got reference to the pentax K 3 rumors.

So what is a Stereo Phone-out Monitor Jack?

I just ordered a headphone with my regular B&H quarterly order in case I can plug it in.

The hump is the cold fusion fuel cell.

It is possible the body in question is a prototype that did not have the headphone jack operable. The rumored specs list a head phone jack.

Pre-production bodies might not have all the ports active since only certain features are being tested.

80īs design flaws with more buttons and funnny bumps.
Pentax/Ricoh should not that the camera looks ugly and I do not care much about their reasoning.

Technology wise the K3 needs some major improvements to convince people of the system in generel.

While the camera looks ugly, the reinforcements are in the right place, but the design...!
