Wow, I just compared the A77 vs the NEX-3N @16000 iso and the A77 is really bad .
A77 vs NEX-3N @16000 iso

K-5 IIs vs NEX-3N @ 12800 iso

Maybe they should use the NEX-3N sensor instead

That's the megapixel race for you. I'd just assume they keep the current sensor.

Interesting. Sony left the mirrored market and Pentax stayed. Is that the "do not compete" agreement between Sony and Pentax? I'm glad they were able to shake hands and get along with each other.

I think there'll be 20 and 24mp cameras eventually, but theres no way they'll use that noisy 24 from the a77. They would have turned that down before the K5 II even.

dunno. The K-3, like the K-7, might be a stop gap to the K-1. It would also explain the price.

The 24 MP A77 was tried and rejected before the K5 IIs. We owe the lag in the release of a 24 MP K series camera to the time engineers spent trying to get that useless sensor to perform to spec.

I have no idea... maybe the sensor has been improved. Maybe it's a new sensor, who knows, we'll see soon enough. When the A77 came out, some people were speculating APS-c had hit it's practical max in terms of adding useful MP, that speculation died with the release of Nikon's D3200. The A77 was so bad, most people saw it as not as good as 16MP models currentl available for other manufacturers.

The 24mp in the Sony SLT's is noisy as hell and not competitive at high ISO esp not v the 16mp CMOS sensor which spanks it's quite badly (lots of colour noise in the 24mp Sony's which is very hard to clean up at high ISO's esp 3200 and over)
The ones Nikon are using are evidently Toshiba ones, but there are some banding complaints and I've seen green tint problems too.
They've had a few years Sony to improve their 24mp APS-C sensors so maybe decent performance can be done

When printed at 16x20 I can't tell the difference between the Nex 7, K-5IIs and D600. They are so close that the only reason for me to go FF is the little boost in ISO and DOF.

Sony had more than 2 years to come up with a new version/revision.

Nikon uses a Toshiba sensor, why wouldn't Pentax as well?

I love how every rumor of a rumor sends the board into a meltdown..

Just because it is a 24MP Sony sensor doesn't mean it is the same sensor as the A77.

Those are FF. But the top APSC sensor seems to be the Toshiba sensor in the D7100. K-3 will be APSC. Just saying.

It's seems hard to believe Sony is going to put some new technology exclusively into a Pentax or Nikon body. It's going to be something they develop for their own camera division before Nikon or Pentax can get a hold of it. So what else could it be from Sony?
