I think screw-drive is fine for the Limiteds. It helps retain a smaller form factor. Consumer-oriented zooms like the 55-300? DC all the way.
Yeah, defenately...I was shooting a congres yesterday and the day before. This was a last minute call because the other photog backed out, I had no idea what to expact and just grabbed some gear and lenses.
The main room had hiddeous lighting. While the DA* 16-50 is perfect quiet, it fell a little short and luckily I brought my tamron 90mm. Usually it gets used MF but here, with moving people I needed the AF. First time focussing...ZZZZZ, grrrgggGRR, ZZZZ, GRRRR....OMG, what`s that loud noise...offcourse, screwdrive!!!
I`d forgotten all about that and wanted to sink into the ground by the first sound of this terrible noise. I had the feeling everyone was looking at me
