That would be wildlife action in my case:

Common Swift K5 with sigma 150-500.

I`ve spend 4 entire afternoons to get this common swift in flight, these animals can reach a staggering 200 Km/h and do the craziest turns. The K5 AF-c just can`t keep up and most of the time won`t even lock on. Worst of all, when finally achieving focus, it will jump and lock into the background when anything appears behind the bird (i.e. Trees, hills, bridges, etc) Improved tracking combined with color-awareness sounds like a gift from heaven to me
Congratulations! Everytime I try to catch one of those i get frustrated after 5 - 10 minutes! I gave up trying with the Sigma 150-500 and tried the Fa*300 but have never caught one this sharp.

Don't care about the body so much... I just want a lens that doesn't have to go in for the same damned repair four times in three years!
I want to see Pentax/Ricoh replace the DA* 16-50 with something that actually works when necessary.
The 50-135 is a tank, dropped it twice -- no problems.
I have two 16-50s with the same problem, each repaired three times. Never dropped, never bumped, they just stop working. argh!!

The best body in the world is useless if you can't get good lenses!

Well K-5 was using the same sensor of D7000 and Pentax make a killing of it versus Nikon. They will probably make the same on K-3
How so? DXOMark scored the K-5 sensor at 82 and the D7000 at 82. Their rating system says 3 points difference is insignificant.

So a couple of questions / observations...
  • The image processing chip is capable of 12fps at 24M pixels, so there are other in-camera processing elements slowing it down to 8+fps. This bring up the question of how many images will it buffer?
one and a half. hahaha ;-\

I would say it is the shutter that slows it down to 8fps... hope it is still capable of a high sync speed.

With regard to buffer depth, we know that the buffer of the K-5 holds a bare minimum of 20 RAW images under worst-case conditions. It's incredibly unlikely that Ricoh would reduce the physical size of the buffer, so the buffer of the K-3 should be able to handle at least 12 shots. This is definitely better than the D7100, which has a worst-case RAW buffer size of only 2 shots (6-8 shots under more typical shooting conditions).

Given that this is a worst-case value, it's almost certain that you'll get more shots than this. In addition, this is under the assumption that the physical buffer size remains the same. There's a good chance it will be larger, and UHS-I will make the effective buffer depth greater as well (assuming you have a fast SD card).

I think the recent move by Pentax to upgrade their lenses to the new HD coating has something to do with this new camera and it's upgraded video capabilities.
Sometimes it's easier to do an upgrade of every component of the system. Lens upgrades, when tied to optimised manufacturing processes and plans for the next 5 years or more, do make sense too.

However, the main weakness in Pentax system — as many users perceived — was not the quality of its lenses. Real weakness was the K-mount cameras performance and the camera-related issues.

Pentax never addressed them because it never had any aspiration to kick into more serious waters of its gameplay. Thus, Pentax became a victim of its own mediocrity.

So everyone was waiting for new cameras, and judged Ricoh by the inactivity and silence in that area. Mind you, even with the K-3, they haven't solved all the problems: they have only started addressing them. The next immediate step is adding more cameras utilising K-3's tech, because only one camera cannot "save" Pentax. That tech must find its way in other cameras too.

DX0 Scores
K-5 = 82 and D7000 = 80

Not exactly the same but close.

I guess everyone's experience is different. My DA*16-50 is my standard walk-around lens having outlived both my K20D and K-7 before graduating to my K-5. No issues. My DA*50-135 OTOH has been into the shop twice for SDM issues, and my K-5 twice. I guess if we had each ordered from different batches, one of us would be raving about how robust our lenses are, and the other would have switched to another brand.

BTW - since the most recent repairs (knock on wood) all lenses and cameras are performing wonderfully.
