I wonder if it will be able to do that composite technique for getting MF resolution via the RAW composite shooting mode. It's not mentioned in the spec's but I can see that being a variation on the auto RAW HDR modes.

8.3 fps looks like it's for JPEG. 4.5fps for raw.
How did you reach to that conclusion?
The maximum speed is, of course, 8.3 fps for all formats. 4.5fps is continuous medium, and there's a continuous low as well.

More likely it's done using the ultrasonic dust removal system or variation of same. SR would be far too slow and imprecise.
Getting back to that - Imaging Resources is claiming that SR will vibrate the sensor at about 500Hz. Slow?

From the specs. Perhaps this section of the specs has been badly formatted. I'd be glad to be proved wrong:

The Australian price will be $1429 according to CRK. That's the US price + GST.. a great change from what we usually get here.

If so, the simulated AA filtering would only apply to lowish shutter speeds <1/500s or <1/250s. Should not be a significant limitation, if true, as max. shapness shooting would be mostly likely to be used for static subjects, and probably from a tripod using MLU.

Dan.

Edit: <1/1000s, since it a sub-pixel movement thing
.

That's a great price, especially as it doesn't take into account a 10% hit on the exchange rate

That's definitely wrong, and actually impossible as it would've been a severe downgrade from the K-5.
The figures (from Pentax USA's site) are:
- Continuous H: Approx 8.3 FPS (60 JPG, 23 RAW)
- Continuous M: Approx 4.5 FPS (100 JPG, 32 RAW)
- Continuous L: Approx 3.0 FPS (200 JPG, 52 RAW)

The AA system is said to work perfectly well up to 1/1000, then it would still work but not as effective.

Why on earth did the come out with the K-5 II and IIs, makes no sense. So now we have the K-5, K-5 II, K-5 IIs and K-3 all cameras almost similar. I am lost. What would have made sense is

1. A FF
2. 1/250 - 1/320 sync speed.
3. Firmware update for the new flashes to support that Sync speed.
4. Flash power control from the camera

for starters.

I bought the K-5IIs, because it was better for me than my K-5. It has reached 58,000 shutter actuations - much of a year shooting with a better camera than I had before it.

Now I've pre-ordered a K-3, because it will be much better for me than my K-5IIs. Perhaps it will be superseded in a year, but I will still have had the benefits of it for that year.

So the K-5II(s) made lots of sense to both Ricoh/Pentax and to me, and so does the K-3.

It's listed at $1399 inc GST at K-3 | www.pentax.com.au.

What I really want to know is whether the old K-7/5 grip will fit the K-3 - I'm inclined to think it won't otherwise I doubt they'd have produced a new one....

Also did anyone else notice the slightly snarkey comment about the AF speed in the DPreview preview where they say something along the lines of "from our initial testing it is still a way behind the competition".

Which is yet more anti-Pentax bias from DPreview especially when you consider it's a pre-production camera.
