The problem with that is that the official Ricoh product specification doesn't say the same! It says 100 to 51200.

I think it is time to go to the source - Ricoh - rather than rely on secondary sources (or archives of rumours).

If you click on the "feature"-Box on the Ricoh page for K-3 you will find: ISO 80 - 51200

I think that's just an artifact of copy-and-pasting from the K-5 specs. The pre-production cameras couldn't go down to ISO 80...

The difference between 100 and 80 is 1/3 stop, but yes, it's a small difference. I just hope the K-3 ISO 100 DR is as good as the K-5 ISO 80 DR!

Pentax will have to do better than Nikon with the Toshiba then:

Compare cameras side by side - DxOMark

Well, the K-5IIs and the 7100 score almost identically yet the 7100 has 8 more Mps of resolution.... I don't see a problem.

People who do not need more mp but want greater dr will see a problem. But they can always stay with the k-5.

Well, I viewed having iso 80 as a work around to get flash sync speed up. That was/is awfully handy on the K5.

I'm no expert on flash: I hardly ever use it. But I am puzzled to understand why a ND filter wouldn't have a similar effect. I'm obviously missing something owing to my ignorance of flash photography, but it is something I'd like to get more into.

Then again it is sharper because of more mp (with the right lenses). Or to quote the great Johan Cruijff

I'm not sure how much better the DR can realistically get than the K5II anyway - especially given the fact that Pentax isn't in direct control of it's sensor supplies and designs.

The K-3 does also bring other advantages - such as AF etc. But one could always resize the 24 mp images down to 16 mp to gain some noise reduction benefits over the K5II
