In practice you want as much flash power as you can get, especially when you're using diffusers. I've been in tons of situations where the 1/180 limits my exposures. Using HSS the flash becomes so weak I might not even use it. Getting to 1/250 or heck, 1/200 makes a difference.

It's like when they made DA 35 a 2.4 lens instead of the 2 that actually was the intention of that lens design (the optical formula is almost exactly the same as FA 35). That bit makes a difference

It's nothing compared to the 1/4000 of old day Nikons though. I really wish instead of this AA filter / no AA filter camera versions which is irrelevant for my image making, they make a version with electronic shutter for every camera release. I'd definitely buy the electronic shutter version

HSS is yber cool on paper, but has some serious limitations.
When using HSS you loose a lot of flash power. I think you are down to 1/8 of full power, maybe even less. This makes it near useless when it comes to killing ambient sun light.

to kill ambient light especially sun you need at least 8 speedflash...that's why people use profoto or battery powered strobe...because even at 1/250 sync speed you will end up at f 16 and so you need a lot of power no less than 400 watt....i mean to kill seriously...

They are not all reflective, at least two sides are transparent.

Offcourse , I assumed that was obvious.

They do say "improves reflectance" which I would take to mean "increases reflectance" on the reflecting surfaces, rather than "decreases reflectance" on the transmission surfaces (ie increases transmittance on the entry and exit surfaces).

I could be wrong but aren`t DSLR prisms are only coated on the reflective sides?

Yes, if Pentax could just throw us a bone and allow us to fire a manual flash at faster than 1/180, then at least that would help. A big discussion on the need for faster sync was here:

Doesn't matter I guess, as long as I can get what I need with 1/250 I've only been using it by feel and find that 1/180 is often limiting, for me the problem is that I need to stop the lens down too much for my liking.

Often the need is not to kill full sun but sunsets / backlit exposures.

And yes for focus peaking in the last post! Pentax has not become Nikon

Pre-production versions had Pentax there; the production versions will show Ricoh below the screen.
