We'll be sure to do a detailed evaluation of the K-3's AF once we get the camera in our hands, so stay tuned for the in-depth review!

Personally, I wasn't blown away by the K-3's AF performance while playing around with it at PhotoPlus (but this is based on a pre-production body, so I don't want to speak too soon).

I am really looking forward to that review! How soon after the K-3 is released do you think you will post it? Do you expect the results to be that different with the camera after release compared to a pre-production body? I really want to know more about about the AF performance through the viewfinder.

Thanks Norm. Being in the U.S. I've never ordered from Henry's only B&H and Adorama. You seriously are tempting me. I don't know why the silver and black appeal to me, I only have black lenses.
I've been in and out of Henry's since my year at Ryerson Politech in 67-68. They were always the best place for used lenses. These days I can't get used Pentax lenses of any quality anywhere, but your best chance is still at Henry's. They weren't my favorite store back then (they were my second favorite), but in these sad days of failing brick and mortar outlets, they're what's left. And their on-line division is really aimed at poaching American customers.

This might be a silly question but since I don't the answer I'll ask it, does buying a camera in Canada affect where I can get it serviced if I don't live in Canada? Would I have to send the camera into a Canadian service center?

Yup, and said service center only ships within Canada, so you'd need someone else in Canada to help you ship the camera there and back.

If you want USA warranty, you have to purchase from a US authorized dealer like Adorama, B&H, amazon, beach camera, etc.

If you are seriously thinking of ordering, phone them up and ask to talk to some one in pro-services. You can probably get a handle on that talking to them on the phone. I find they are much more helpful on the phone than inquiries on line. Their "pro-services" covers any DSLR type inventory.

Thanks Adam! I appreciate your answer. I think if I end up getting the K-3, it will be from a US authorized dealer since I want a USA warranty and not have to worry about the logistics of that!

I also wish the K-3 had a compositional grid through the viewfinder since I tend to tilt everything.
VF grids are actually on the focusing screen, which is an inter-changeable part. You can install screens with a variety of different patterns/grids, and more screens are available than just the ones Pentax offers directly.

I know you can purchase VF grids, however on the Nikon D7100 and D600, you can switch on a viewfinder grid if you want to use it. I wish the Pentax had that feature. It probably isn't a high demand one though but being that I seem to live in a tilted world, it would be helpful to me.

I don't have much problems with tilted pictures since I upgraded from k10 to k-5 - I use the level in the VF all the time.

I turned that of since it isn't level.

That's a pity. Wouldn't that be covered by warranty?

probably but i don't want to loose it for over a month. It's already been back twice because the shutter broke and the repair wasn't calibrated right.

Don`t worry, by your previous posts it seems you`re just starting out and you probably won`t run into the limits of the K5. It is still one heck of a camera and probably more capable than you are, so buy the 55-300, spend some qualitytime together and enjoy the learningprocess
Yeah I'm just starting out and loving every minute of it, but always frustrating after a couple of months of research on which camera to buy for a new model to be released just weeks after a major purchase. Loving the K5, slowly getting to grips with it
