They can't even be called a hobby business; they are smaller than that.
The business strategy plan (linked by Kunzite) presented by Ricoh CEO Miura, references Pentax cameras on 4 or 5 slides out of 26. Pentax cameras and how they fit within Ricoh comprise the whole of two of those slides.

A CEO does not waste words when presenting business strategy to the investment community. Miura is serious about Pentax cameras.

Indeed! I think we should also appreciate the RICOH letters on the back of the K-3. They indicate that this is something RICOH is proud to bring to the market.

I don't think it will affect the Pentax engineers. I think this was the plan they announced in 2011, before the merger. It was a fairly long-term plan, so I hope they've been able to do it with a minimum of compulsory lay-offs.

BBC News - Japan's Ricoh to cut 10,000 jobs
The plan was to be completed by FY 03/2014.

First I hated RICOH letters on the back. But then I realized, that RICOH put a lot money into Pentax and into R&D and tried to do really really best apsc camera on the market. As long as Pentax is top brand for RICOH (I mean Pentax for top of the line cameras - dslrs) and its on the front cover its ok.
I like Pentax philosophy. Thats the reason Im in.

I wish RICOH many good numbers in future!

Sounds encouraging
Welcome back. Do I see a K-02 in the mirrorless future?

Does that mean you're bidding on the one-off Leica project?

I personally take mirrorless-SLR to mean a mirrorless camera which uses an SLR-mount, ie the K-01. But they probably aren't being that specific and just mean any interchangeable lens mirrorless camera like the Q.

Still, if they see sales and profit in mirrorless as well as premium compacts, it should encourage them further in those directions, maybe even both in the same camera ie a Ricoh mirrorless full frame to replace the GXR a la the new Sony A7.

Yeah, relative to its tiny size in the whole Ricoh organisation, Pentax/Ricoh Imaging does seem to get more than its weight in mentions, especially specifically by name. Much of it though is the security camera business, which I assume they see as a huge growth market - if every city in the world became like London with all its CCTV cameras, not to mention all the increasing private/business surveillance, I'm not surprised they would be viewing Pentax as a potential gold mine.

So forget iPhones and Flickr, soon the most photos/images/video taken every day in the world by far will be by Pentax cameras!

I just checked my email and found the latest newsletter from B&H. It had the announcement of the release of the Nikon D5300. I noticed that one of the features was that it didn't have an AA filter. Really? Hmm...what other camera company had a camera without an AA filter? Oh...and I also noticed that the D5300 comes in colors. Really? Didn't folks laugh when some other camera company started releasing their cameras in various colors quite a while back? It seems to me that once you've managed to get the big boys to start following your lead, you must be headed in the right direction.

I listened to the audio presentation - it is the Q system.
