Ricoh Imaging expected to make a profit in this FY

According to a Ricoh IR presentation:
"As a result of transformation of the camera business, we established Ricoh Imaging by integrating Ricoh and PENTAX. We are forecasting a profit for this business within this fiscal year."

"In the other segment, we will continue to pour resources into Digital SLRs, Mirrorless cameras and Ricoh’s conventional high-end compact cameras to make this into a solid business. We are seeing an increase in share and expect healthy growth."

"Digital SLR (single lens reflex) cameras, mirrorless SLRs and premium compact cameras are very popular, and selling well." (mirrorless reflex, yeah, I know...)

And there's also a presentation:
"Further strive to enhance a strong brand built around interchangeable lens cameras"

I would be curious to know if the company renaming to Ricoh Imaging has anything to do with entering B2B markets like factory automation (which could be done under the Ricoh brand).

Operation-wise, they would have shown significant profit in the last year too, but they had restructuring costs no other imaging company had.

Very interesting that they called the GRs "conventional".

Ricoh HR "optimization"

I hope the intended "HR optimization" of reducing workforce by 10 000 employees by Q3 2014 (page 7) does not include the Pentax engineers. That is a very serious layoff plan which will come at a high human cost...

The problems they had were unrelated to Pentax; I'd say Pentax is part of the solution. Don't worry, be happy: "healthy growth".

I don't think it will affect the Pentax engineers. I think this was the plan they announced in 2011, before the merger. It was a fairly long-term plan, so I hope they've been able to do it with a minimum of compulsory lay-offs.

Pentax acquisition is a minor one, and I think the entire Ricoh Imaging now constitutes 1% of Ricoh's human resources.
They can't even be called a hobby business; they are smaller than that.

It's not the price they presumably paid, nor the number of employees who decides what's a "hobby" business and what's important.
Ricoh's vision appears to be much more than a mere hobby project, involving consumer cameras, factory automation, document management and many other areas.

Regarding the workforce, all the cost cutting and downsizing was already done by Hoya. Few months ago AFAIK Pentax was hiring people, to replace the ones they lost.
