The hood looks very cool, as if there is none. I hope it will really do its job. Well done Pentax engineers!

The lens looks big imho, but great on the K-3, I wonder how will it look mounted on a K-30 :-)

I want to see a silver one on a silver k-3. Actually I find it quite weird that they only release the silver k-3 in limited quantity since they are selling lenses in silver.

It is so people like me can feel intolerably smug

New toy!

Not surprisingly, I'm very tempted to get HD DA 20-40, in silver....

It's also for people who've been collecting silver ltds from the start. I think since K20D all of the pentax flagship has a silver version.

Thatis strange, since when you sell silver lenses, people want a silver camera.

Yes, personally I prefer the classic and unique Pentax green stripe to the "me-too" red stripe.
Amen! Not to split hairs (but what else are internet forums for? ) with quicksilver's observation, but no, it doesn't LOOK LIKE a Canon L lens. However, it is clear that you, I, and many others see a red ring and associate it with L lenses. But seemingly every time this is mentioned there is backlash for some reason.

For me, the point isn't that the red ring Limiteds look bad (au contraire!), but that the green rings uniquely identified Pentax.

Anyway, just my two cents on a ridiculously minor issue!

The link shows that the lens is selling for 88,000 yen, which is roughly $900 USD.

I personally think it should be around $800.

I honestly can't say it's worth 10 cents, if it doesn't have an application. I'm curious, what is it about this lens that you would pay $800 for? The only way it wold be worth that to me would be as a landscape lens, with excellent resolution corner to corner and CA really well controlled. That would be an engineering triumph… another centre sharp edge weak zoom with a lot of Chromatic Aberration… I got lots of those...

I'm sorry, are you talking about the Canon-like green ring?

LOLOL, $900?

I paid like $300-something for my Tamron 17-50. And it's really not that big. Sealed, no, but that's what filters and plastic bags are for (and I have shot in the rain with it just like that).

There will be a second production run, at a minimum. They even did the same thing last time.

It's smart to do the lenses in silver. Then people buy them and they get a certain number of silver body sales for those types when the run is released. So it's staggered.

Exactly, I paid 379 new for mine, and it does what I want at a constant 2.8. This lens has to be really good to be worth $400, given the competition, and with the 18-135 as my walk-around I can say without a question of a doubt, if you're talking about IQ, shooting in the rain is not conducive to good pictures. I have the focal length really well covered, with excellent quality and WR, so exactly where will this lens make it's mark? Or are people going to buy it just because it's Pentax?
